Draft custom config is at the end of this post.
Budget: $4000 but happy to pay less of course. Expectations: Play WoW with great graphics and no cpu-based lag. I currently have two 23" monitors capable of 1080p, but considering upgrading to cheap reliable 4k capable monitors such as HP LG 24UD58-B, which is why I opted for the RTX 2080, but (a) perhaps I can get by happily with a GTX 1070 and (b) oops I think I need a bigger power supply with the RTX 2080 ! Usage: WoW, StarCraft, web browsing. I know those games can't use more than 4 processors so maybe the i7-9700K is overkill for me. Special Needs: I sometimes play in a hot room, so need excellent air cooling. I currently have a Cooler Master Chassis I bought from DS in 2011 and it solved my heat problem perfectly. I don't know how the Velox compares, but it seems to be at least partly liquid cooled and I want to make sure that system is zero maintenance. Also I am certainly open to the latest generation Cooler Master Chassis maxed out with fans, as I know that works! My eyesight is declining, so settings to make it easier to find the mouse pointer would be helpful. I have a few already, but would trade them for a huge pulsating mouse icon (!) Good configuration sir. Yes I would stay with the excellent I7-9700K 8 core 8 thread CPU, but I would Overclock it as it’s made to be overclocked.
I would in your case stay with the RTX 2080 video card as a solid choice given your desire to use a 4K monitor. Look for monitors on the NVidia tested GSync monitor list. Many of us prefer monitors that use IPS tech for best colors. Couple things I would suggest here...so I prepared a suggested Config below.. Velox build 1.1. ($ 3,621). Config # 2424773 *Better midrange Asus Strix Z390-H motherboard & preserves ability to add a 2nd video card in future if desired. Solid performing board... I own one.and it’s very solid board. *5X faster Samsung Evo 500gb M.2 NVME Drive1. M.2 NVME drives use the much much faster PCIE bus. You actually have a 2nd M.2 NVME slot on your motherboard you could utilize at some point. Easy future upgrade to add yourself on M.2 slot 2. * Corsair Vengeance 16gb RAM, max sized 280mm Corsair CPU cooler, on sale stronger 850W Corsair PSU needed for the more power hungry RTX 2080 ...all carry longer Corsair manufacturer warranties. * Best performance Corsair ML Series fan kit for longest life magnetic levitation fan bearings and strong positive pressure and CF performance for excellent case cooling. *Free Stage 1 DS Overclock on excellent 8 core I7-9700K CPU is not to be missed...Intel makes K class to be overclocked for best performance all the time. You could go Stage 2 OC (+$99) as you have sufficient CPU cooling. *Free DS remote control RGB case light string.... Enjoy custom colors, or turn off, or turn them on all white when you need some light in the case! See what you think of the changes I made, or tinker some more... All of Hockeybuck's recommendations are very good. I would also look into maybe changing the cooler to the Corsair H100i.

I would also say that Hockeybuck is right on the money with his recommendations. That is almost the same setup as my Lumos that I received just a week ago and I am loving it so far.
You will love yours as well. |

Thanks! Why would you suggest the Corsair H100i over the H155i ? To save money, or is it better for me in some way? BillS |

Thanks HockeyBuck,
All your suggestions look great to me. I am embarrassed to admit that I didn't know about NVME drives! May tweak the cpu cooler as SnowandSand suggested, and got a shout from John Singh (DS sales manager) so will give him a chance to weigh in. Getting excited :) BillS |

Lol...No worries my friend...That is exactly why many of us DS vets try to help folks get their configurations tweaked here on the forum, before they order. There are advancements like M.2 NVME that lots of folks are not aware of. We wouldn't want you to miss out on something good like that!
About the cooler question. The config I gave you has already upgraded the stock DS 240 mm cooler with the larger Corsair 280 mm H110i cooler, and that's going to be even more effective than the Corsair 240mm H100i model. Plenty of cooling if you have interest in upgrading to a Stage 2 overclock on the I7-9700K CPU. Let us know what you settle on, and how it all goes for you! |

I plan to go with HockeyBuck's recommendation, with one tweak. 32GB memory costs $25 less than 16GB - perhaps there is a special going on. So anyway I will do that (configuration 2429179)
Will check out https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/products/g-sync-monitors/specs when ready to buy new monitors. I'll need a new surge protecting power strip, DisplayPort cables, and DisplayPort to DVI adapters. Does the community recommend particular brands, or just go to Staples or Best Buy and talk to a salesperson? or does DS sell them? Thanks again, BillS |

Something amiss. When I looked at your config #2429179, the 16GB of Corsair was $112 LESS than the 32GB. Still, that's much cheaper than it used to be just recently. You don't need 32 GB for gaming, but....
IMHO, the stores are a tad overpriced on things like that. I'd use Amazon or New Egg so you can compare brands/prices. You don't need expensive cables, but I'd stay away from the low end, too. |

I use ZeroSurge for real power surge protection in front of a APC AX1500 UPS (any brand will do). The monitor will bring all the cables.

Congrats on the Velox order! That rig should serve you very well for many years ahead! Good component choices!
I also noticed something good on your config for all DS customers...the time to ship is back at 15-20 business days. That’s better! |
