Since I'll be getting a new system from here soon, I wanted to make sure I can get the most out of it in any way possible.

Currently, I own an older Linksys wrt54g

It hasn't had any problems so far, besides needing to power it off/on at least once a week (which may be an issue on the ISP side of things..I don't know for sure). It does seem to run a little sluggish occasionally, especially when my girlfriend gets on her laptop (everything connected via ethernet cable).

Do any of you have suggestions for an upgrade? or should I even bother, and just keep the one I have?

Can always unplug power for a minute.

To the router and to your ISP's Modem.

usually the first thing to try.

remember to change your router's password or I'll get in lolol.

I don't know weither to be grateful for the reminder to check my router settings, or if I should be frightened that you'd want to get in there to begin with LOL.

But honestly, I went to check and realized I completely forgot my fricken password, so I ended up resetting everything. So, thanks for that, and the slight panic attack this morning ;)

DST, I'll run a speed check when I get home tonight. Seems like I can only get on here when I'm at work lately...hrmm...you know somethings wrong when you can get online at your job but not at home haha!

Edit- Here you go
Looks like the connection isn't as bad as I thought...odd. May need to purchase some new, higher quality cables. I bought a crapload of them for all of my stuff from a bulk supplier for incredibly cheap. They work well, but I'm not sure if they're the problem. Can't beat $10+ for a 25 foot cable tho :)
