Hey everyone. I hope i put this in the right section. It's been a while since i was on here after getting my ds rig a little over a year ago (it still kicks some serious azzzz)
I'm having some major issues regarding internet speeds and i feel my router may be behind most of the problems. What happens is my connection gets slower and slower each night i go on and do some gaming and what not. But once i reset (power down) the router, its fine until a couple of days later when it gets slow again. I'm in NJ and have cable (optimum online BOOST) and my router is a linksys WRT160n v.3 10/100 (no gigabite).
Anyone reccomend a high performance wireless router? I need it to be wireless for my fiancee whos in the next room as we have seperate offices in the house. I use hard conect and she has the wireless but she does not game. I can do a speedtest when i get home tonight but i checked out the "Faster DSL COnnection" Thread and noticed a fella whos in NY have around 27.70 Mb/s (last time i did mine i got like 6 or something putrid.
Anyways let me know your thoughts. Thanks!!
- Rob

Is this a recent occurrence? Have you contacted your provider to see if there are any line issues?
Is that router still under warranty? I have the WRT160n v2 and I have no issues like that at all, I've had it for about 3 years now. |

Before you go and buy a new router. Make sure your just not being leached off by someone. I would change my password and make sure my pc was clean of any root kits ect...
Could always test it by connecting pc directly to modem. See if still an issue. Also hope your hard wired in to router. Wireless sucks for gaming. Just setting your cell phone by pc could cause issues. For link sys. Type this in URL. 192.168.254.254 Should take you into router management. And if you never changed the default username and password your system is probably compromised. Even if you have antivirus and anti hacker software running. Easy enough to ad an exception to the rules once in. Most wont let you know they are their. They just leave a door open for themselves so they can come and go as they please. Why I use kaspersky Internet security suite. Also checkout. Www.dslreports.com. See if there is a dns issue from provider And IP TOOLS. lol and some custom stuff from a friend in Russia lol Hope you get it sorted. Fr3shm3at Edited by FR3SHM3AT - 13 Apr 2011 at 2:35pm |

This has been going on for some time now. I replaced this router to the newer version 3.0 about ohh.. 2 years ago.
Also i made my own user name and PW that i've changed 3 times int he past year but that doesnt seem to be the issue. I don't believe i am getting leeched because once i power down and plug in, i'm fine for the whole night. I also have their software that tells me who joins the network and whatnot so unless they enter in under the radar, i'll know whos comming and going.
Thanks for the replies.. I'll do some testing tonight and see whats going on.

If you find out it's not your router and your clean. Call cable company and tell them your box went down and need a replacement. Just d/c it and tell them it won't power on. Might be a firmware issue.
Worked for me lol Fr3shm3at N+ dual band for router Also dont forget about www.dslreports.com. See if your provider having issues with others. While in router management give wireless more bandwidth. |
