Have a question about the rpm readout on my fan controller with the 1850 rpm gentle typhoons. i have 3 of them up top in my case, 2 of them for my thick 240mm rad. i have a demciflex air filter over top to keep the dust from getting in and because its on, it increases my rpm by about 100-120. with my fan controller i have my 12v knocked down to about 11.4 to keep them going 1850. should i crank them up to 12v and let them go about 100 more then the rated rpm for this fan? or is it a false reading because of the pressure caused by the fan filters. they are 20 bucks a fan, know they are a great quality fan just curious if its okay to let them go faster then rated.

Like you suspect, the fans probably are increasing in speed.   Air filters, esp. the close weave type to block dust , create a backpressure which is less airflow and less air through the fan blades.   Less air resistance speeds the fans in general. Its like a box fan in your house when a curtain is sucked to the inlet side.   The fan speeds up and if left like that might heat up and fail.

I would keep the fan at specs by adjusting like you did.   That extra speed isn't huge and the quality of the fan depends if it has any adverse effect.   You might also see your chip temp under load also rise by 3-4c because of less air but that shouldn't matter much.

I don't like extra filters for these reasons but I don't have much dust build-up, so easy for me to say.

Yeah i wish i could go without them but this room is carpeted and we get too much dust for me not to have one on.  i do see a temp increase but im still good, i believe last time i checked i was high 60's at 4.6 with prime 95.
thanks for the advice
