I've been seeing more and more pictures showing burnt connector cables for their 4090. Is this something we should be concerned about? Granted I don't know if their computer was custom made or premade but I hope this won't be an issue here?

If it happens, will it be covered under warranty?

I think, the following is a fair summary of the back and forth on this subject:

Let's see if we can get this NVIDIA 4090 Cable to MELT! | JayzTwoCents (YouTube)

Basically, some cables may have subpar soldering and it's important how the cable is handled (i.e., bending).

I'm guessing/hoping DS is cautious enough during installation that it shouldn't be a big concern.

Probably. However, the primary concern has been safety.

Igor's Lab has taken apart the guilty 12VHPWR plugs and has found that the cables that come with Nvidia are suspect by the way the internals are soldered and configured.

IMO the whole power system is flawed. Nvidia went smaller for more power delivery! The 6+2 cables were too big and adding more (my 3090Ti Kingpin has 5!) took a lot of space but that 12VHPWR plug is......

In reference to MrCheetah's link to the video, Jayz also said that using Corsair's power plug eliminates the potential problem. If you get a Corsair PSU, their power cable comes with it.
From a news article,

"The newly announced Nvidia RTX 4090 is a massive graphics card with high power requirements. Corsair's existing PSU line-up is already compatible with the new RTX 40 series, as all RTX 4090 graphics cards ship with a PCIe 8-pin to 12VHPWR adapter. Corsair will also be selling new 12VHPWR 600W cables, compatible with all Corsair type-4 PSUs, allowing direct power to the GPU without an adapter. In order to use the cable, you'll need a 1200W rated Corsair PSU or higher."

The problem is not only on how the 12VHPWR plugs are made, but is exacerbated by side to side bending of the plug and cables.

Hopefully, DS is on top of this.

I forgot the 3090 Ti K|NGP|N even existed. It's no longer listed on EVGA's website, out of stock or otherwise.

Anyway... When so many were jumping on the hate bandwagon, I overall liked Nvidia's choice to do an angled plug on the RTX 30 series FE.

Oops

I forgot about the Power Link 52U that converts the 5 x 6+2 into 2 x 12HPWR plugs. All I see are the 5 cables going onto the gpu.  Still, 2 x 12VHPWR are way better than only 1.

@MrCheetah, they did not last long in EVGA's website. Brute of a card. Maxes out fps on a  PG27U (4K) !  Reason I'm waiting one generation or 2 of cards before upgrading again. Sorry that there will never be an EVGA RTX 4090 Kingpin or any other future EVGA card.
