What do you think about this article? Should I update my Samsung 980 Pro firmware? I'm nervous about upgrading the firmware on an SSD that my system is currently booting from.

It shouldn't be a problem. The Samsung Magician software usually makes firmware updates simple. You run the risk of gibber problems later by never updating your firmware.

JayzTwoCents mentioned that the drive that seems to be affected the most is the Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, I stress the 2TB. I have not been able to find anything that states all the 980 Pro NVMEs are affected.

If you are running the 980 Pro 2TB, check its firmware and make sure it is NOT 3B2QGXA7. (In W7; Control Panel>Device Manager>open drives and right click on the 980>Properties>Details>Device Description>Hardware ids on drop down menu.)

If you have 4B2QGXA7 or 5B2QGXA7 (latest) it should be ok.

I decided to upgrade my firmware to the latest even though my SSD didn't have the bug. The upgrade was easy and painless.
