So I bought a new i7-2600k system a little over a week ago.  I just read today about the problem with the sandy bridge SATA 3 connection degrading over time.  Does DS have a policy on what this means for those of us who purchased sandy bridge systems?

Ok not a big deal to my sandy bride. This only affects sata2, not sata 3. Only thing I have plugged into sata 2 is the dvd drive.

Question re: SATA ports.

On the ASUS P8P67 PRO MOBO, the following SATA ports are described.

Storage     Intel® P67 Express Chipset
2 xSATA 6.0 Gb/s ports
(gray)
4 xSATA 3.0 Gb/s ports (blue)
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Support RAID 0,1,5,10

Marvell® 9120 controller
2 xSATA 6.0 Gb/s ports (navy blue)*
JMicron® JMB362 SATA controller
2 xExternal SATA 3.0 Gb/s ports*
* These SATA ports are for data hard drives only. ATAPI devices are not supported.

Are the issues ONLY with the four SATA 3.0G ports from the Intel chipset?

Are the external ports from the Marvell controller OK?

Which ports, exactly, would optical drives be connected to? My build I'm making up now has two HDDs and two optical drives.

Can optical drives normally mounted in the front panel be driven by the Marvell controller SATA 3.0 ports?

Are there any available cards to put in PCI slots to add more SATA ports? Is DSO amenable to providing any of these in its builds?

Wouldnt it only affect sata 2.0 ports? I thought thats what they had posted about the SB issue.

So wouyldnt the pro mobo be unaffected then?

I could have my info mismatched though

edit: im assuming sata2 = sata 2.0 dont know much about sata lolOops

it effect the sata 2.0 ports.

however the 2 marvel ports suck, so you are reduced to 2 sata 3.0 ports.

also the lingo is sata 2.0 = 3GB/s and sata 3.0 = 6GB/s.

you can add sata 2.0/3.0 ports via pci but that is not the best option.

All mobos are effected.

Here is what everybody needs to remember, the sata 2.0 ports are effected over 2 years of use, that means you can use your 2 intel sata 3.0 ports for your HDDs, and I would use the sata 2.0 port for the dvd drive, new mobos are out in march, so you will never notice any degradation by then, and in march one way or another you swap mobo and that is it.
