add the memory fan kit.
are you sure you want the stage 2 oc? by the time you pay shipping from egg to ship to you, then you ship to DS the price is the same or egg might be higher, if you just install it then the price difference might be $20, might as well let them do it. if the 500GB from DS is a 32MB cache then its better from DS if not, you have to see how much they want to charge for the 32MB cache. |

A casual, back of the napkin, calculation reveals that it's absolutely not worth picking up these items yourself. I figure you'll save way less than $100. The price difference isn't remotely worth the hassle of ordering and adding the parts or worth letting DSO off the hook for being responsible for the entire system.
Anybody else come up with a different conclusion?

How's that go again.."sh*t happens"...and for less than $100 the added peace of mind with the DS warranty (on ALL your parts) seems worth it

Agreed. Let DSO do it, For less then $100 let them hook up SLI for ya.
Now if you HAD to save cash and didn't need the hardrive space now, then you could order the 500GB later. That wouldnt be a big deal.

That is what I am doing. I want to go SLI, but I cannot afford the extra $300 right now. But a couple months from now I will add a second card. Those kind of parts are easy to install. On the other hand, you probably do not want to change the CPU 2 months down the road if you do not absolutely have to. Unfortunately, a lot depends on finances for most of us. If you have the extra cash just sitting around, I would just let DS do everything.
Easy items to upgrades from The Egg would be:
memory
2nd or 3rd video card
added hard drive
BD drive
I am almost certain that DS allows you to upgrade with your own parts without invalidating any part of your warranty. But you may want to check for yourself.

If the primary reason for not having DSO "finish off" the build is that you want to postpone the purchases, that's a different question. I'd certainly agree that the second GPU and hard drive are logical purchases to put off, because they are easy to install yourself, assuming there's sufficient room in the case.
You might ask DSO to leave the power leads for these devices where you can "deploy" them later. I hated having to mess up DSO's wiring job when I added a disk drive.
