You can disable it thru services or you can have complete control and choose what has it what will not.
for full control you can read my post here. for services, right click my computer>manage>services and applications>services> here locate superfetch and right click it>properties>here stop the service and from the startup drop down menu choose disable. apply and exit. Its good to have it off, but just so you know with today's ssds like the intel x25 or 320, it will not make a big difference in the life of your ssd. Edited by DST4ME - 10 Jul 2011 at 6:26pm |

MSDN says that the default behavior of Windows 7 is to:
"Windows 7 will disable disk defragmentation on SSD system drives. Because SSDs perform extremely well on random read operations, defragmenting files isn’t helpful enough to warrant the added disk writing defragmentation produces. The FAQ section below has some additional details. Be default, Windows 7 will disable Superfetch, ReadyBoost, as well as boot and application launch prefetching on SSDs with good random read, random write and flush performance. These technologies were all designed to improve performance on traditional HDDs, where random read performance could easily be a major bottleneck. See the FAQ section for more details." Tho if you upgrade from hdd to ssd you will have to manually set some of those off if you didn't want to reinstall windows.

Thanks for the replies, although I did find out about Windows 7 automatically turning all that off when I installed it. *grin*
Also, to DST and Dragoon: The Intel 320 300GB is working out aces so far. Course it has only been a day. I REALLY love how much gear they include in the package so that you don't want to any parts for your install. |

Glad to hear, the parts you see people like me or dragoon or some others recommend is because we know for a fact they are the best ones from personal experiences or somebody we highly know and trust's experiences combined with what we know.
In short when we recommend a part to you guys, its the same thing we would get for ourselves/family and loved ones, so you know its good ![]()
Now I can't say that for all forum members so be careful who you listen to
