Hey guys, I just had a quick question.

I got a 160 gig intel as my main c drive and a 1 tb (not sure the brand, it was something like seagate/hitachi/blah).

Anyways, i put a couple easy programs just to try it out on the secondary hard drive. I put a very small program called ventrilo, many of you might know about it, but on my secondary hard drive, when i open it, it takes like 5 seconds or more sometimes to open it after i double click. I know it's not SSD and all, but i've used regular 7200 rpm drives before in all my old pcs and they opened vent instantly.

Is it a bad drive / bad configuration or is it just slow cause it's a secondary drive(first time with a second hard drive)

Check your power settings, under Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Power Options. Click Change Power Settings, Change advanced power settings... and under Hard Disk there will be an option for powering down a drive after it hasn't been used after a certain amount of time, probably 15 or 20 minutes. If you haven't accessed your HDD in that time it will almost totally power down and the next time you go to access anything on it you have to wait for it to power on and spin back up.

You can set it to never power down if you want.

Perfect, it was at 20 minutes, thank you very much. I couldn't figure it out :-/ I never knew there was a power settings for hard drives like there is for screens turning off.
