Just wanted to see what people thought about this build. It's going to be basically for gaming and basic home applications (web surfing, possible MS Office, Itunes and such).

Edit: My budget is right around where the price of this rig is($1750 without shipping)...I could probably squeeze a few extra bucks into it if need be.

hola

what makes you want amd over intel?

you can save $60+ going to a 500gb hdd instead of 1tb, unless you have a need
for tons of space

the noctua u12p is the superior air cpu cooler right now, but if you like the cooler master and youre not looking to set records, it will be an ok choice

for about $15 more bucks you can get way more power in that budget
you can check out the guide in my signature for some more info

Hey Ender (got the name right this time...hehe). As far as the processor goes, I really can't say why I went with AMD over Intel. In terms of the video card, I have been reading that the GTX 470/80 are far more power hungry and run much hotter than the AMD 5850/70. That was the only thing that I was basing the choice of video card on really.

Will the i7 860 really benefit from the free overclock that DS offers?

Edit: Also from reading your guide, did I read correctly that the DS power supply is just as good as the Corsair (750W variety)?

the 860 is currently better than anything amd has to offer

the fermis do use more power than the upper ATI cards, as a cobra will use more gas and be louder than a honda civic. Im not trying to take a jab at ATI here, just saying that with more power comes more resources used. and they are absolutely not even half as bad as the hype will have you believe. most people on these forums, including myself, report them as not loud at all and not in any dangerous temperature range, even under full load

the 860 will super benefit from a free DS overclock... a 2.8ghz chip running at up to 3.9ghz? yes please! mine has hit 4.2 on air with little effort.. ill probably get it higher when i finally get back to tweaking it

on the power supplies, yes, they are basically the same, the modular part is a drawback, but a slight one

Thanks for the advice Ender....I think I am going to go with the build you suggested as opposed to the one I originally posted. Your help has been greatly appreciated.
