For the last two years, I have been using a pair of headphones that I found at Best Buy for aroun $20.  They were a definite El Cheapo, but it had a volume control on the headphone, which is very beneficial for me, since I am about half-deaf.

In the last two years, I have gone through about 3 of these headphones that I can recall clearly.  May have been 4, but only recall end results of 3 of them.

The first headphone died of Feline Misfortune.  I had left the cord with the shiny volume control module to dangle into my chair under my desk and a cat decided it made a fine chew toy.

The second and third headphones both died the same way.  After a few months of normal usage and wear and tear, the right earpiece snapped from it's connection housing and had to be replaced.

While shopping for a new headphone this last weekend, I actually couldn't find the headphone I had been using.  While browsing amongst my choices, I came across the Sennheiser PC 350 Headset.  Remembering that Sennheiser came highly recommended and tired of having a headphone break on me, I wrestled my budgetary conscience into submission and splurged on the PC 350.

I couldn't be happier with my choice.  Instead of resting on my outer ears like the old headphones I was using, this headset rests around my ears.  After a long time of usage on the old headphones, I would have to readjust a little bit for comfort.  The new PC 350 is so comfortable, I can't express how much better it is to wear.

For sound quality, bear in mind, I DO have a 50% hearing loss.  Nevertheless, I can tell that the sound quality is better with this headset than it ever was with my old headphones.  It also comes with a volume control module and at 3 meters, the cord can stretch farther than my old headphones ever did, so I can actually use a sound card that only has jacks in the back of the computer.

So, from an Old Deaf Guy, I give a big 2 thumbs up for the Sennheiser PC 350, if you can afford it.  In my opinion, it's worth it.

Also, a lot of people don't know to go with the Astro A40 or Sennheiser.

I got both and the Sennheiser PC350 has much better sound quality than the A40 (not that the A40 was bad).

The advantage of the A40 is that the system comes with the mix amp and it works seamlessly with the Xbox 360. The mixamp also comes with so many cables that you could connect it with basically anything.

The A40 can be used as a headset for either a PC or 360 while the Sennheiser can only work as a headset for a PC.

I personally found that for my PC the best combination is the PC350 + the Astro Mixamp, while the A40 is better for the 360.
