Hi, I'm in the market to find a good gaming boutique that I can build an i7 rig for FSX. I have looked at Maxforce and ******** so far. I have looked at others but due to resellers reviews and word of mouth at Hardforums or Toms Hardware turned the other way. I've been doing my home work as to what seems to work well when FSX comes to mind through the minds at avsim.com and simvation.com.
Here's what I came with so far. $2260
Chassis Model: Antec 900
Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P6T Deluxe (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Dual SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz OCZ Platinum Edition (High-Performance) Power Supply: 650W Corsair TX (Dual SLI Compatible) Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 2x Two (500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260+ 896MB (216 Streams) (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Cooler Master V8 (Compatible With i7 Processors) Liquid Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a H20: Stage 3 Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty I also have a question concerning the shipping? Is this standard ground shipping? Three day shipping? I live on the other side of the country and this is of course a concern of mine. I'm sure everyone has the idea that Fedex or UPS has a few gorillas in the back of their trucks.
Another question. What type of OC could I expect? I know with air on the V8 that 3.4 - 3.5ghz can be obtained on the 920.

I ran it through with Nick N over at avsim.com. A lot of people over there are currently running the i7's one went from a 9650 @ 4.0 to a 940 @ 4.0 and they are saying it runs a lot smoother. A lot less stutters, and frames seem to be pretty stable on it.

There we go. Ticket sent. 233409
It needs to be OCed. Definately to the 3.6 or higher to get satisfaction. If not to OC to get the 940 or above to get some promiss. Nhancer settings, no ATI card, needs more than 512mb of video memory. 260/280 and if they still carry it here the 8800 Ultra. 4 gigs of Ram the 1600 was one recommended from'em and a few others on avsim.com too, and to follow his other setting. The other big one seperate HD for FSX. I agree on this part too myself. Two 500 gig drives should be more than enough... granted a 300 gig Vraptor is a bit more than I want for now. I can do that upgrade later. Follow his other settings and it's good. I'm more than willing to follow instructions. I'm good with it too. :)
I'm going for the i7 because well to be blunt I'm coming off a P4 2.4ghz with ancient parts. So to go completely new made some sense buuuuut the price drops on the 9650 makes me consider again sometimes.

Inside lighting ... I can do without. The 1000w PSU too. 750/650w should be fine. I still like the idea of having the two hds. One for the OS, drivers, not so demanding games, one for FSX only, and I put a new IDE drive in my current PC last year. I have FS9, my pictures, itunes stuff, and some other things I'd like to keep around.

if you go 750w you wont' be able to upgrade pass 2 x 260+.
the whole point of 2 HDDs is to have the os drive faster, otherwise go wiht a 500GB now and upgrade to a veloci raptor later. if you can afford it then go with a 150GB raptor for HDD1 and 500GB for HDD2. lighting is free or $10 extra. my build is for a rig that in say 4 years you can still upgrade gpus and etc. Edited by DST4ME - 21 Jan 2009 at 5:50pm |

Lighting and paint job is no big deal but the 1kw psu is. If you want to upgrade at all then you will need AT LEAST 1000w psu
