Hey everyone,

So I'm a current DS customer and a very happy one at that - I last ordered my current rig in 2015 and have had close to zero issues whatsoever - a beautiful machine and easily worth the minimal effort it took to get.

I'm looking into getting a new computer soon, and of course my first instinct is to go back to DS, but I keep reading all about the supply shortages and extremely long wait times. The build I'm looking at is pretty much stock parts with a 1000W power supply, a little extra RAM, and possibly the "big" extra, a GTX 3070. I couldn't have been happier with my last DS experience, but what I'm reading gives me pause. If I order now, when do people think I might be able to reasonably expect my computer would arrive? Before July? The longest delay I think I've seen on the forums is about four months.

Just not sure what's more important to me right now - staying with the company I know and trust but looking at waiting a loooong time, or buying a premade machine from sources with lower customer reviews but that would allow me to get my machine by April. Curious what everyone thinks - thank you!

I think you answered your own question. DS is certainly worth looking into for your next computer. Understand though that times are extremely challenging for everyone in being able to get parts. If you don't need it now, either wait for the industry to return to normal or find a cheaper but available alternative such as a laptop. Ordering now from any system integrator, or building your own, reflects a chance that you could be waiting awhile.

Just my 2¢.... the shortages/delays are not specific or localized to Digital Storm. If you want a custom machine the builder is going to have to source parts. It's a given that as long as we've all been in 'lockdown' that no builder is going to have parts on hand, so everyone is ordering.

In other words, even if you DIY with the pieces you want you're going to have to wait. The question is which builder do you trust?

Only you can answer that.

By April 1, Intel is going to have their new Rocket Lake line of gaming CPUs shipping. Still 14nm, they will be limited to 8 cores, but will be the fastest gamers around. They will support PCIe Generation 4 at last. AMD has had that all to itself for over a year, so it's been hard to recommend the obsolete Intel line. AMD is a real, viable choice now with Zen3.

As said, parts shortages are everywhere, but easing. The problem is that it's whack-a-mole now, so it's hard to say if a specific build will have any delays. A shipment of faulty PSUs unexpectedly held up some orders that should have sailed through recently. That said, Alex has vowed that backlogs are clearing, so wait times are easing.

This close, see what DS offers with Intel. I do configs. IDK what you'd want with a 1000W PSU. 850W is more overhead than most will ever need.

Keep in mind that Rocket Lake will be the last generation to use the LGA 1200 socket. If 8 cores proves to not be enough, complete motherboard upgrade will be required.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Really appreciate it.

The more I've thought about it, especially after putting thoughts on paper (or forum), the more I realize I did answer my own question - to me, build quality/a company I trust is more important then buying a prebuilt machine from someone else and having it arrive in three weeks. Plus, I'm happy with what I have now, so it isn't like a longer wait will kill me.

@Create - good to know re: PSU. I am definitely not an expert on power supplies, or really anything build-specific. All I do know is what my budget currently is and that I want to at least have the capability to dip my toes into 4K gaming. I plan on posting on the Configuration thread more about what my budget is and what I'm looking at for additional feedback.

Our build times are improving, but yes, everyone is affected by delays. I promise you that you won't be disappointed with your PC when you receive it.

I’ve been waiting nearly 8 years for my PC from Alex.

If it wasn’t for me, y’all wouldn’t even have hardline tubing. But these damn delays have had me waiting for Alex to send me that free Aventum X for nearly a decade now.

;) lol
