This might seem like a silly question but....

Which is better, shutting down every night or leaving the system running?

I know you can also put the computer to sleep but when I tried that with my PC it didn't seem like it went to sleep (fans still buzzing away etc.).

Shut down or sleep it, no reason to keep it sucking 600+ watts overnight for no reason.

There are two different sleep modes, one doesn't do much and the fans and lights and all will stay on. To switch to the other sleep mode, access the BIOS as the PC starts up (press Delete on EVGA boards) and find the sleep mode option and switch it from S1 to S3 sleep mode (or vise versa, I forget which is which). The other sleep mode is much better, turns of basically everything but power to the RAM, all the lights and fans go off.

Make sure that after you do as Dragoon suggested you go into windows device manager and right click on your mouse and turn off/on, whatever your preference, "allow this device to wake your computer". it can be annoying when you move your mouse and wakes your PC unintentionally.

Below is a good guide for you. Pay special attention to the changes needed for windows. If you don't have an EVGA board disregard the specific bios stuff (your will look slightly different if not EVGA)however the windows stuff still will apply. All this applies to in you wanted S3 sleep (where the pc looks shut off but will instantly resume to your desktop). S3 is a great option (best of both worlds IMHO).

Thank you both for responding. I will try what you guys have told me when I get home tonight. I do want it to fully sleep so S3 sounds like what I want and S1 sounds like what I have now. The link to the forum post is broken however.

Oh and I do have an EVGA board.

With both of your guys help I was able to setup my S3 sleep. I just tested it and it goes into such a deep sleep that I thought it turned completely off. This was just what I was looking for, thank you both.
