Looking for informed opinions on the configuration below. I'm NOT a gamer but want a high performance system to drive dual 27" monitors. Main use will be for online day-trading. Since it will be used all day long, silent operation is a big requirement.
Thanks for your input. Welcome to DS, dcweber!
If you're looking for the system to be really quiet, you might want to change the GPU to the reference card. The ACX version runs 2 fans and will run hotter/harder due to it's OEM OC and create more noise. It will also dump all that hot air INSIDE the case and with having very little airflow that could cause your system to work harder without removing the sound dampening panels on the case creating even more noise. The reference card pushes the majority of hot air out the back of the system. |

You might want to also look at a bolt system. The level 4 comes with a GTX 780 ti reference cooler. Since it is a small form factor it does not have a ton of fans so should be pretty quiet.

Thanks for the idea fstcvc. Will look at the default card in the SLADE config.

Ariktu does bring up a very good option in the Bolt - not sure how the two systems would compare on the noise scale but I would guess very close. Here's a Bolt configuration using the 780ti but otherwise similar to your Slade build: 910600 $2799 - right now they are currently OOS on the standard black or white cases (as well as some of the custom painted ones) so if a machine is needed now and none of the current paint options appeal to you, then the Slade is still a good option... Also, the space in a Slade will make the machine easier to work on should you need to upgrade or repair anything...

Hi dcweber... Nice build. If quiet is a major requirement, the Slade's 550D is the quietest here. For a single video card, and no 240mm cooler that requires the top cover to come off, it is quiet. The quiet does mean less airflow for the vitals, but for a single card it will keep temps safe.
The Bolt has tested quiet, but the 550D has to be quieter. I don't have any figures to back it up, but the Bolt does have the cpu cooling fan, gtx 780 fan and the fan for the psu all right next to an opening in the case. Nothing to block the sound. DS has done an excellent job in its design, but still the 550D , IMHO, will be quieter, plus like was mentioned, more room to work, upgrade, etc.
Good Luck.
You could save a few bucks and go with the 1600Mhz ram, doubtful you'll see any difference. You could also go with the Gryphon mATX mobo. It is smaller, but if you have no need to sli later on, then the Gryphon will work great with single card and the sound card. Gryphon won't work in sli and sound card. Not enough Pcie slots. Just some thoughts.

The SLADE would be a perfect day trading system.
