Topic: SLI gaming computer Posted: 22 Feb 2011 at 2:08pm |
I've been browsing these forums for a few weeks.. following some of the input from most of the veterans. This build is spefically for SLI using video editing software.. while gaming with Crysis, WoW, SC2, Diablo 3, COD black ops, and the new Modern warfare3 coming out.
I'll probably start playing at 1900x1080.
Is the Noctua stage 1 air cooling sufficient enough for SLI? Or should i upgrade to LC?
Budget is roughly 5000$ (This is my max, the actual set up doesn't specifically have to hit 5000$)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but editing software does not make use of sli.
wow does not use sli. just about every game you named does not need sli to be smooth, minus one game, crysis at highest settings and high aa will need sli. my advise, go with a single gpu system that can handle 2, after you play with the system, if you still think you need another gpu, then just drop one in, its real easy to do and takes 2 minutes for somebody who has never done it. Noctua is the cpu cooler, has nothing to do with the gpus. if you still want sli, this is more powerfull system: Here you go Ticket# 488862 --- $3240 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master 942 HAF X Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe (Intel P67 Chipset) (Features USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 1000W Corsair (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (160GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Model: X25-M MLC Edition) (Extreme Performance) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (2TB Western Digital (7200 RPM) (64MB Cache) (Model: Black Edition WD2002FAEX) (SATA 6Gbps) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 1: Noctua NH-U12P SE Dual 120mm Fans High Performance Cooler H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Red) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks Boost Processor: FREE: Overclock the processor between 3.6GHz to 3.9GHz Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty Ask DS specifically for this fan to be added to the top, so you endup with 4 x 200mm fans: haf 200mm non led fan the 2600K will beat the 990x in everything except multi tasking, however app per app, the 2600k is much more powerful, in games too. |

Disregard my last post. As i've stated i play alot of Crysis so i believe i'm going to need to upgrade from my 460 to x2 570/580. And also wondering if Noctua is better for this SLI set up or should i go with LC? Specifically for higher operating temps... i do want a top of the gaming rig. That will be easily upgradeable to the new Cougar point chip, if it ever ships out.Edited by zangetsu - 22 Feb 2011 at 6:52pm |

The LC system here is air tight, pump are like hdds, they can live for a long time or they can die anytime, but for the most part they do well.
leaks are no big deals, as the fluid is non conductive. the config I'm giving you, you would get after the chipset is fixed. there is no reason to spend all that money on a x58 when the system I posted does better for less, and its in sli for you. But its your money, if you are set on x58 then its x58. Edited by DST4ME - 22 Feb 2011 at 6:52pm |

I'm not set on a x58 chip, i dont mind using a 67, especially since the new ones should come out...The reason why i chose the 990x is for that reason. If i was going to get a computer now... why not get the strongest CPU with more cores.
Since i play Crysis warhead, why wouldn't i get SLI right now? Wouldn't SLI be better instead of contemplating whether or not 1 GPU could handle it? Thats what i dont understand the theory of testing 1 card, and then waiting for one to ship. lol
Also is there any difference between the frostchill stage 3, and the subzero LCS stage 4? From the pictures they're the exact same thing? Edited by zangetsu - 23 Feb 2011 at 7:51pm |

Its not a matter of contemplating, you simply build a pc that can handle sli, but go with one gpu, then you get the pc and use it, now if you are satisfied with the gpu power, then you dont need sli and can put the money toward a good future upgrade.
if you do see you need more gpu power, then you simply go to the store and buy a gpu, come home and put it in, and connect sli/power connectors, and your done, you have sli, you don't buy the second one from DS, that would be too expensive IMO. Subzero has better performing parts than frosthchill stage 3. |
