I'm new to DS having been using an Alienware for the last 5 years. I haven't purchased my system yet and have been trying to do some research prior to buying something. I'm planning to go with the Slade Level 3 system but I'm not sure I want to go with SLI or just the GTX680 single card. I only use a 23 inch monitor at 1920x1080 and mostly play MMO's. I know I can upgrade at a later time but would prefer not to have to for quite some time. My Alienware has had many upgrades since I purchased and I need a break from that.

With my current configuration I'm probably looking at around $3,200 cost. I've read all the postings I can find but can't quite get the direct advice I am seeking.

Thanks Oops

Any plans to upgrade the monitor in the near future?

No. While i might buy a new monitor I most likely would not go bigger than 23 or 24 inch.

I guess I should have been more specific, any plans to upgrade the resolution of your monitor in the near future? Smile

Based on your size preference though, I think a single 680 will be plenty for you.

Hi JohnD212... If this is strictly a gaming rig, for that monitor you could drop back to level 2 and save a bunch of money.  The x79 platform and the 6 core 3930 chip is for video editing, 3D modeling and the like that can take advantage of it, but if in the budget then it certainlt wouldn't hurt.

The gtx 670 in level 2 is alot cheaper, $250,  and performs almost the same as the gtx 680 in gaming.  Going to level 2 you could sli, 2x 670 and still be cheaper than the level 3 with single 680.  MMO doesn't usually need sli but not sure.

Just some things to go on.  Good Luck.Big%20Smile

Tidgxor and i are all over this. LOL  He's right, the single 680 or 670 should do MMO and that monitor  just fine I would think.

hmm...that's interesting because I wondered if I really needed that many cores for my general use. I always tend to buy things way over what I need in the hopes I won't have buyers remorse. I will look at Level 2 instead. I currently own the Intel Core 2 Extreme CPU X9770 3.20GHZ and while it's worked fantastic I never felt the 4 cores were ever used much and I think I paid a ton of money for what I actually used. Computers were so easy to buy a decade ago...what happened???  lol

bprat22 gives good advice, for some reason I thought I read that you were set on the 680, but upon re-reading what you wrote I must have completely fabricated that. Big%20Smile

Either way, you'll be rocking MMOs.

Well, computers have always been about the same to buy (in my own opinion), its just that we tend to gain more income as time goes on and thus the options greatly expand LOL

bpratt and Tidgxor are exactly right about the processor and the graphics card. However, I would definitely recommend upgrading the HDD to the WD Caviar Black. It offers a decent R/W performance improvement for only $17.

That is exactly what I have on my configuration...the WD Caviar Black Edition. Thanks.
