lol.... that sounds pretty damn easy to fix.

The formating is hosed, but you get the idea. From of all places, Windows Help:

SYMPTOMS

The Recycle Bin does not appear on the desktop in Windows XP or in Windows Vista. Therefore, you cannot restore a file that was deleted.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if any of the following conditions is true:

• A third-party program was used to hide the Recycle Bin.
• The TweakUI program was used to hide the Recycle Bin.
• The registry information for the Recycle Bin was deleted.
• A Group Policy setting was used to hide the Recycle Bin.

Note Windows XP Home Edition does not support Group Policy.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue in Windows Vista, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Appearance and Personalization, click Personalization, and then click Change desktop icons.
3. Click to select the Recycle Bin check box, and then click OK.

My wife does this constantly: she'll go to empty her trashcan in the desktop and select "delete" instead of "empty recycle bin".

I'm not saying this is how this particular trashcan was lost, only that the symptoms are vaguely familiar... LOL

I havent emptied my recycle bin in about 2 years on this computer. Its too bad they dont have an icon showing the trash overflowed and all over the floor..cause thats what mine would look like.
