Alrighty, so my old computer has started to kick the can. I first thought I would build a new PC so I did my research which is how I learned about Digital Storm. I know a thing or two about computers but am no expert so I was hoping for a few pointers. What I am trying to build is a system that can play games, play on my 42 inch LCD TV, and play on my sound system (4 corner speakers, plus front, plus sub, reciever). I am also looking for a computer that I can buy and upgrade for a few years so that it doesn't get out-dated. I am not sure about are memory and vid cards (one big one or 2 in SLI). I have some money to throw at this but no too much (polishing off my masters) so I have set the cap at $4,000 (took a while to save that up). Please offer any advice, I am thinking about getting it within the month (January 2009). Thanks, here she is:

Wow, gave me a lot to think about, thanks. I just had two quick question though:
1) So is there really any point to getting the i7 940 over the 920 if the speeds will be roughly the same?
2) Which vid card config would you recomind?
Thanks so much for all the help.

As far as choosing a vid card atm, nVidia vs ATI has give and take on both sides. As a general rule, ATI has historically (and currently) focused on picture quality, while nVidia has focused on performance (frames per sec). Basically, when comparing equally priced cards, you will be choosing between ATI for picture quality vs nVidia for extra frames per sec. The tradeoff in real gaming performance is subjective and up to the user's preference.

I was leaning towards nvida myself. Do you think that I should go with 1tb or 2 500gb for my hard drive?..plus the velociraptor

1TB HDD is a pain to manage and scan and etc., go with one 500GB if you you ask me, the haf can hold upto 5 HDDs, if you need more space you can always add another 500GB, and another, and another.... I'm sure you know what I mean Edited by DST4ME - 05 Jan 2009 at 4:54pm |
