1) Any of you run Procoess Explorer? Any problems?
2) recommendation's for a software utility to show speeds of optical drives.
3) Ghost or Acronis? Opinions ... if I purchase online will I need to get the PDF for the manual, or is it fairly intuitive?
Also I recieved 2 custom image disks from Digital storm.
Custom Image Disk 1 (8139)
Custom Image Disk 2 (8139)
Being that the system was sent back & I recieved a new build, the restore disk I would use in an emergency would be disk # 2? Would it matter? I saw a post from Alex stating that Digitalstorm went to a single disk restore venue. So my thinking is I was sent disks from both the original build & the new build.
Above Question is directed more for one of the DS peeps in the forum.

DST4ME and Duke both reccomended acronics to me. It works great and only took about 30 minutes to make my own restore disks

Acronis but always use the clone feature, the imageing features are not very dependable.
you can follow my clone guide here your optical drive's read and write speeds are listed in the specifications of your drive. |

imaging is pointless, and not as sure as a clone, with imaging you still need the software that made the image to read the image, with clone there is no other software needed.
If anybody follows my clone guide, they would be cloning under 2 minutes, the time of cloning itself depends on the size of data on the drive. BTW software like Acronis can't kill any drives. its impossible. All Acronis does is copy the data, the same way you copy data from one folder to another. HDDs go bad when there is power surge in them or their physical parts go bad, software that copies data can't do either. So who ever reported that they lost their HDD because of Acronis in their forum, is a moron, don't listen to them. Edited by DST4ME - 07 Feb 2009 at 6:37pm |

Well ya if you set it to erase the source drive, it will do what you asked it to do and wipe it clean.

Well who ever is saying that is a moron also, cause the app can't do anything with out human telling it to do so.
the rest is human error. the only way it can leave your HDD empty or unbootalbe is to either erase all data or delete mbr, both of those has to be initiated by the human. see its very simple, all the app is doing is copying, when you copying something, you can't do anything to the source cause you are not doing anything with the source. I've been to their forums, its full of people who don't know nothing, don't' know how to use the app right, then they blame the app for their own mistake. I have 5 years with Acronis and easily over a 1000 clones (my HDDs get clone once a week) not one problem as far as losing data on source or source not being bootable. I also know over 100 people from my own forums and other forums that have never had problems. if one does not know what they are doing, any app is going to be a huge problem. |

Why do they blame me for all their little failings? They use my name as if I spent my entire day sitting on their shoulders, forcing them to commit acts they would otherwise find repulsive - Lucifer

Questions..
Looked at your clone guide, do I clone just my C drive <OS>? Or all three drives? Once I clone (thinking only C drive) can I back up other data like pictures to same drive? Data would be seperate and only need to copy back to drive of choice correct. What is the down side to useing Vista to backup to said drive? Edited by Caymus - 11 Feb 2009 at 1:14am |

vista doesn't not do a complete clone, with a clone you are ready to go, there is no storing or anything like that, unless you want to keep the clone in which case you copy back.
yes you clone only the OS drive, use a separate drive for your files and etc. you can use the same drive you would just need a big enough drive to partition so that one partition holds the clone and another holds the copy of your personal files, but I recommend using a separate drive for your personal file backup. if you have made your own external, you can just pop one HDD out and put in the other for the files back up. Sorry for the redundancy here. I have the WD 500 gig external My Book drive. It has software already on it. I would like to keep said software although I could copy it onto one of my main drives. My goal here would be to backup my C drive housing my OS. (clone) In addition I would like to back up pictures and data from another drive on the same system on a some what regular basis. Feel free to add any visuals you may have. I would purchase Acronis if this is possible & easy to do. I'm thinking I might have to partition the external, correct? Again any visuals would be great

on step 7 choose "NO I do not want to delete partitions" and I think it will partition it itself. been while can't recall exactly.
