Topic: Some configuration questions....Posted: 19 Feb 2009 at 3:48pm |

Below is the configuration I'm considering for purchase - need some input. Most choices in the configurator offer good information about the differences, but for the motherboard, memory and power supplies (to a lesser extent) there's no comparison information to understand the price differences. Can anyone explain the advantages of the motherboard offerings, and the memory manufacturer performance differences, if any? How is Mushkin 'better' - and why is the asus board 'better', assuming they are indeed (cost doesn't always signify better performance) - and are there any differences in the power supplies regarding cooling or reliability that might justify paying a premium that anyone is aware of?
Thanks so much for the input!

welcome aboard, right now the mobo to go with is evga.
all the stuff you see DS offer are good quality stuff. what resolution are you going to be gaming at? just looked at your config, and it looks good,I don't really want to change anything
I would change the 2 x 500GB HDD to 1 x 500GB HDD Edited by DST4ME - 19 Feb 2009 at 4:01pm |

Thanks for the welcome - no question they are all good quality, am just trying to understand if there's some reason I might want to consider an extra $50 for mushkin memory, for example, over the corsair. Both are excellent manufacturers, I thought maybe there was a reliability difference or some processing difference that might indicate a qualitative advantage of one over the other. I was pretty sure on the EVGA motherboard, so thanks for the affirmation there. Gaming resolution likely to be in the 1600x1200 (Dell 27" monitor, can go 1920x1080).

wanted to know your resolution to make sure the GPU can handle it and the 295 is made for higher resolutions like yours.
as far as ram, you won't even notice a difference between 1333 and 1600, so even if Muskhin has better timings you still won't notice it. if your ram goes back you have DS warranty that will take care of it
I normally help people by picking the most power for their money, I belive you have done that so I got nothing to change. Honestly I see not reason to ask you to change your parts to another brand. |
