Sound Card Driver Bad?

I have the SB X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card and 5.1 speakers on Vista 64.

Is there something different about the OEM version (what DS installed) and the retail version of the X-Fi cards?  I updated to the latest driver and suddenly lost my surround speakers.  All sound came from only the front left and right.  No sub, center or rear.

Checked settings in control panel and everything was still correct.  I rolled back to the previous driver and all speakers are working again.

So, is the new driver bad or am I missing something?

Probably a good motto harleyman.  I'll just leave it alone....for now.
