Hello guys I was wondering if the vanquish 2 comes with a sound card because I am thinking about getting astro a40s with the mix amp and the mix amp only works with a sound card. If not would I be able to install a sound card into my vanquish 2? Thanks!!

No just onboard sound. Most motherboard these days have an optical thingy which i believe the astro mix amp has and if yours does there would be no need in getting a sound card.

Okay thanks! The mix amp does come with an optical cable. I assume that plugs into one of the ports on the back of my computer. Again thanks!

If your motherboard has an optical port that is where you plug it in at. If it doesn't then you may need to buy a soundcard but whether or not you can install it i can't tell you.

Like Arkansas said, a lot of motherboards do have an S/PDIF optical out, but the H81m-d motherboard in the Vanquish I don't believe does.   But, it does have a S/PDIF header on the mobo that allows you to plug in a optical module, mount to the back and use that for your TOSLink optical cable.   Not sure the quality but should work.

Though it's sound quality won't be as good as a dedicated sound card. You have to typically buy an ROG or higher end (x79, z97, etc..) motherboard to get a good onboard audio. So take all of that into consideration if you're planning on dropping money on a nice head set.

It's like spending $1,000 on a car audio system and playing FM/AM radio on it.
