Hello team, I have recently gotten an Astro A50 Gen 3 headset to go with my Digital Storm in case I want to play games with voice communications. However, despite the fact that these work great (actually, the predecessor model) on my PS4 and XBox in full 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound, I cannot get them to do anything but stereo on the PC. My goal is to get full 3D sound out of these headsets. Asus ROG Strix Z390-H Motherboard The motherboard I have is above, and the specs clearly say "ROG SupremeFX 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC S1220A" - see here: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-STRIX-Z390-H-GAMING/specifications/ I have the A50 (Gen 3?) connected by both SPDIF and USB. The astro shows up as several devices: * Astro A50 Game Playback (which does not output any sound that I can tell via USB connection, but does do stereo via SPDIF) * Astro A50 Voice Playback (which does voice comms just fine in Discord) * Astro A50 Voice Recording (which seems to work fine for Discord) However, I cannot get my SPDIF to do anything useful. It shows up as RealTek Digital Output (using the latest Realtek Driver from Asus) but the only "Advanced -> Default Format" options are all 2 channel. There are no 7.1 channel outputs available. Under Spatial Sound, only "Off" or "Windows Sonic for Headphones" shows up. Encoding formats enable "Dolby Digital" at "48.0 kHz". Driver info is 6.0.1.8666 dated 3/26/2019 from Realtek. This is an HTPC and has Dobly Atmos on the regular TV. It is selling "Dolby Atmos for Headphones" for $10. Astro Command Center software seems to do nothing. Does anyone have any idea how to get my fancy motherboard to output proper 7.1 audio to these expensive headsets? Thanks! |
