I hope this is in the right section.

After many years of faithful wonderful performance, my Klipsch Promedia 5.1 speakers seem to have hit the skids.  Yesterdays 5 or 6 power outages did them in ( whining noise ).  From what I've read, the only ballgame in town is the Logitech z5500 and they don't look very desirable to me.  So here's my questions:

1.  Does anybody have any better ideas for 5.1 speakers for a computer?

2.  What seems to be the consensus for 2.1 speakers?

I like the Klipsch promedia speakers, and the z5500 would be a huge downgrade in my opinion

sound purely subjective, I am  a 2.0 or 2.1 guy. one of my 2.0 systems has 10x the bass of any logitech system, but it is still a little weak. lol

so what is the budget, I can show you speakers that are so much better than Logitech, it isn't even funny..  but they also cost more...

I have only heard a few 5.1 setups on PC's, and none have done anything for me, and I don't have the $$ the do one properly, so no help there.

I was thinking in the 5 or 6 hundred range.  Been thinking of 2.1 audiobyte ones I read about on another site.  Just thought I would put some feelers out to other more knowledgeable people first.  I'd prefer 5.1 so I can hear them coming up from behind but the options I've seen so far look pretty weak.

for mains the SwanMk200III are very good sounding, the audioengine A5's are also good IMHO
They do need subs, and that really varies wildly..There are a lot of decent small sub companies, and also if you have the skills, subs are a good do it yourself project.   My gaming system uses the Swans for mains, and a SVS PB12 Ultra/2 for a sub... lol  I am very happy with that setup, but the sub puts a hurting on the budget..
I do wish I could find a decent 5.1 setup, guess I will have to make some. lol
Although with great imaging you can still place sounds pretty well with a 2.0/2.1 setup.

nice sub Justin, I can see thats its putting a hurt on the buget!!! thats a highend sub!!!!

I'm happy with my older ass Logitech Z-5300
Good Bass (sometimes to much)
good enough sound with the EQ settings with the Fatal1ty pro sound card. But someday I want to upgrade to a highend 2.1 set up someday. 5.1 is a little hard to place the rear spearkers in a office or work area

But Justin is right, there are a bunch of really nice 2.0 or 2.1 systems out there for all kinds of budgets
It seems that the 5.1 and 7.1 doesnt seem to have a big market for them.
