Get the Z-5500's. I own them and they are incredible. Games, movies, music all sound fantastic on them. Deep rich bass and crisp, clear treble.
Some of the beast PC speakers you can get. |

Hmm...I can't say I'm on vacation right now so I'm away from my desktop.
It's a good 2'-2.5' I think. |

Seriously, unless you wanna pay big bux for speakers, I highly recommend Monsoon Planar 9 multimedia 2.1 system. It's not as good as audiophile monitors, but they have the same sonic characteristics of Magnepan planar magnetic speakers with a solid tuned port sub that does well without being boomy. I needed more desk space before so replaced some audiophile monitors for these monsoons I don't feel as if I am sacrificing a ton on musicality either.
Now if I had an ASUS D2X sound card, I probably would grab a pair of lineaum monitors and a B&W subwoofer. |

5.1 > 2.1
I'm guessing you're not an audiophile jtspectra2, so the Z-5500's will be great for you and last a long time. |

Just gonna throw this out there. Why not just keep your Klipchs and just connect the two left/right fronts plus subwoofer? You don't need all 5 channels plugged in for the system to work? I know I don't on my Klipsh 4.1 system. I just have my fronts connected and the woofer for 2.1.

iv never really put my money into a good set of speakers. and its due time . all of my music is v0 or FLAC (lossless) so it makes sense for me to have some good speakers.
im assuming an audiophile is someone who likes good speakers ??? lol Edited by jtspectra2 - 01 Dec 2008 at 4:28pm |

For a "step up" from the usual computer speakers, I would recommend a pair of Swan M200 MkII. I have a SVS PB ULTRA/2 for my computer sub, together it sounds great for movies, and games, and the Swans do well for music, but the SVS sub is poor for music listening. I will just build a sub down the road, but for now I am really enjoying this setup for gaming. The Swans run around $189.00 a pair.

I tried the Razer Makos a few weeks ago, and I returned them to Best Buy next day. The controller was difficult to use, and there was WAY too much bass, even on the lowest setting. This is the kind of speaker system that you can only use if you're in the house by yourself.
I would recommend the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system. |
