I'd like input on the configuration I've chosen for my next Digital Storm PC. Primary use for this PC will be productivity apps (including very large datasets, Photoshop CS6), moderate gaming (COD: BO2, Skyrim, WoW). Biggest investment over base machine is the Corsair 480GB SSD. I have a 120GB SSD in my old rig and the speed of SSD has spoiled me. I plan to run everything (OS, apps, games, files) off of the SSD. I have a large library of datasets and I plan to keep the ones I use most often on the SSD and the ones I use less on the hard drive. I have a 3TB external drive and am religious about backups going there. For graphics, I don't think I need SLI so not worried about that limitation. Hoping the config I've chosen is adequate. Am curious as to whether PSU and my Fan upgrade look good for this. Optical drive choices seemed very limited to me. I went with the premium choice offered. Any input appreciated, as always thanks in advance to the great Digital Storm community. Hi jimmin... Thats a nice build.
Just another way to go is this config. The 500r case with its side panel 200mm fan doesn't need the added fans. Better cooling and a nice case. The X79 Sabertooth motherboard is a quad memory mobo compared to the Z77 dual channel ram. For CS6 you might find the much wider ram bandwidth helpful for your apps. The Sabertooth is a quality board with 5 year warranty. Also with the Hyper 212 air cooler for cpu. Very reliable and cools very good with a bit less noise. But, the Vortex units have a very good reputation so your call of course. I can't cut/paste right now so just put in config #. Config # 778622 Cost $ 2396 Hope this helps and good luck.
