I found this --> http://www.overclock.net/hard-drives-storage/359810-ocz-128gb-solid-state-review.html
which shows the 128GB SS HD being just a slight bit faster than the VR HD.

Looking at the price the (here on DS)

128GB SS HD = $585
300GB VR = $379

any thoughts?

I thought about buying solid state drives but someone here said they were having problems with some of them sticking I think is how he put it so I ended up buying 2 300GB VRs and 1 500gb western digital for extra storage. I am still waiting for my $8500 beast supercomputer so I can start a "firesale" LOL just kidding on the firesale part I meant an e bomb lol still kidding muhahahahahah.

Honestly, I'd go with the VR, it's a sick drive and has alot of space warning that thing gets hot I'd recommend making sure you've got good cooling near those drives.

I agree that atm the velociraptor is king of storage devices for high performance pcs. SSD is still too new and they need to work out some controller issues, plus get the price down.
