I am doing some upgrades to my machine.
I just added 12GB of 1600mhz RAM and I am looking to get an SSD and Windows 7 before getting a new GPU. I have received 2 great offers regarding SSDs and I'm not sure which to go with. OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTXE120G 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) or Kingston SV100S2D/128GZ SSDNow V100 Solid State 128GB SATA II Both are about the same price (the OCZ is a little cheaper). I have a buddy that swears by the V2 but I have heard a few horror stories here and there. The Kingston looks like a solid, reliable drive that runs a little slower. Any help/opinions would be greatly appreciated. |

Both are no good, and I have the v2.
all ssds are not the same there are only a few good ones out there that have a reliable controller and good speeds. right now those are intel 320, crucial c300 or m4. |

Thanks for the response DST4ME but is it really worth the extra $65 and 8GB loss of space for the Intel?
I admit, I don't know much when it comes to SSDs but I have looked around and the Toshiba branded JMicron JMF618 controller seems to be a stable one and the drive doesn't seem to have any issues after latest firmware update. |

You have not looked hard enough, also the vertex 2 does not have the speeds of intel nor does it have the reliability, the 320 has a 5 year warranty, the vertex does not, there is a reason for that.
its not even a question, you are comparing inferior ssd with the king of reliability. @issues1975, force gt uses the same controller as vertex 3 which is the Sandforce and Sandforce has a horrible track record and issues and needs firmware update, at least that is how Sandforce and JMicron has been for the past 3 years, so for me, it needs to prove itself before I bother with it. I thought the V2, V3 and force GT use the Sandforce controllers. Those, I've heard, have a terrible failure rate (unofficially around 3%).
I guess I will hold out for an Intel 320 sale. I can't bring myself to spend over $150 for a 120GB drive. |

If you want a quality ssd that will last its gonna cost you a bit now.
my mistake you got me thinking about JMicron and thats all I posted, the v2 and v3 do use Sandforce controllers, but different models, the force gt and v3 use the same model controller. I did mention that I have teh v2 right? and I'm not happy with its performance at all. Edited by DST4ME - 18 Oct 2011 at 4:25pm |

Yes you did, they are practically giving that drive away at $120 for 120GB after MIB. The Kingston is going for $140 for 128GB after MIB. The cheapest I could find an Intel 320 for is about $205 before shipping. So hopefully, I will run into a sale either this year or the beginning of next year. |
