UPDATE BELOW in replies
kk so i decided to try to add a ssd to my setup. Plan was to throw my games including bnet onto it. Leave OS (Windows 10) on the original HD. Ive been tackling this supposed simple project all weekend. And on sunday i thought i finally got it. But was sadly disappointed when then Nothing worked completely. Im no CPU genius and windows 10 made things even more complicated. I got a samsung 850 pro. Installed it correctly then had 40 kinds of hell with win 10 reading the SSD. Bios would say its there but windows would not. After figuring out how to allocate and format and i initialize. Also ACHI mode. I finally got it to read. SO i was excited began to cut and past bnet and WOW over to the new drive. Then i empited my recycle bin. Changed the location spot to my shortcut for bnet on my desktop and opened and it just froze right away. I couldnt type a password or anything. From then on out BNET is just freezing in the same spot. I tried uninstalling all blizzard game and reinstalling bnet onto the new drive and same out come. Then i even uninstalled again and reinstalled bnet onto original drive like it was before but still same freeze. So now im stuck with a cpu that cant play anything. Wonderful. Any help at all would be appreciated. What sucks is now i dont know if its the ssd failing. Or if its bnet related. Edited by bgwilly31 - 05 Jan 2016 at 2:31pm |

I'm not fully getting exactly what happened, but if you mean you installed the SSD and then dragged or cut/paste a game or program form the HDD to the SSD, then that could be the problem.. When you drag like that from one drive to another you can create path read problems, where the SSD for example doesn't have all the info it needs. Files get corrupted or misplaced, so to speak. Copying a game or program isn't recommended.
I would delete all files associated with whatever you tried dragging over to the new drive, from both drives, and reinstalling where you want it. You might end up reformatting your new SSD. Not sure this helps but good luck. ![]() If you can't even run Windows, then I would unplug the SSD and try with just original drive, then start over with new SSD install. Hi bgwilly31,
I won't be much help but I also added a 850 Pro to my X58 system. I cloned my C drive and everything works perfect. I don't know what you are calling BNET but it sounds like it is having a problem. I would eliminate the BNET from your boot drive and see if the systems boots and everything operates with out BNET. If you have a boot problem then I would pull the sata power on the drive that doesn't have the operating system. Just to make sure you are booting from the correct drive. Frank |

Thanks you guys. Im starting to think it was a problem with me just copy and pasting. Its what i get for trying to listen my friend that thought he knew best. I even mentioned before i went to copy and past if that would even work. I literally said shouldnt i uninstall and reinstall. He told me no i didnt need to.
![]() PS. Bnet is Battle.net. Blizzard games |

Yeah, I agree. Although some people have done the copy or drag between drives and had good results, it isn't usually the preferred method because of the problems that can easily be created.
You were right. ![]() |

if you installed battle.net originally in its default location it probably resides in your C: Program Files (x86) >Battle.net
like others have said you can't just copy/paste to another drive w/o creating path issues. nor can you just click/drag move those files over. there's a specific process of moving files/folders over to different storage drives. in this case you're better off uninstalling (not just deleting) the "Battle.net" from all of your drives (make sure your entire system is clean from any remnants of this program/files/folders/etc.) and then when you reinstall choose the correct path to the new ssd. unfortunately, you'll have to reinstall any games you have in the client. you can use a program like CCleaner to make sure you've gotten rid of file fragments and general house cleaning. let us know how that goes. So now im getting ready to contact Digital storm and see if they can walk me through something.
I was on the phone last night with blizzard tech for about a hour. And they had me do all the lamest things. Like malware checks. And then even started recommending me to virus protection sites. I was like this system is for gaming only. Its not infected and it was working perfectly fine before this. So in a nutshell he was an idiot and had no idea what to tell me. Im hoping i have better results with DS customer support. Hell at this point im willing to almost system restore and just reinstall everything. I have pretty much nothing on the cpu anyways. However My system is overclocked and i was worried that might lose or mess things up even further. After one tech guy i was literally left with a tough luck bro. Im stunned this has turned into this big of a issue. Steam games work fine. Its only the Bnet i attempted to move over. Like i said before im no cpu genius but it doesnt seem like this should be that difficult to fix. ![]() |

db188 did post a great suggestion, try to un-install and re-install Battle.NET to see if that fixes your issues.

I read somewhere that uninstalling your anti virus program temporarily was needed to uninstall BNET. It blocks proper client cleanup. Might be worth a shot.

Hi bgwilly31,
I am really sorry you are having this problem but you can't be too critical of DS. They don't warrant software or equipment added to the computer by the user. You stated that the system was working fine before you started moving files/programs around. Your best bet is to work with the people on this forum or Battle.net. Here is the first sentence in the DS Warranty: "Digital Storm warrants to the original purchaser that any part of the hardware system, excluding software, documentation and similar items, will be free of defects in workmanship and materials for the period the warranty included with the purchase from the date of delivery to Customer." Please note that they exclude software from any warranty. In my opinion, this is not a DS problem. Apparently they did call and made some suggestions to try and help you out. Is this a new machine or one from 2010? Frank Edited by FrankW - 05 Jan 2016 at 3:10pm |

Hi Frank... I think he was complaining of the Blizzard tech, concerning their BNET. That's the way I read it.

if not you can type in the search box "battle.net" and see if anything links>right click and choose "open containing location" (or similar wording). if you find something see if there's an uninstaller app and use it. if not, just delete the folder and contents and then empty your recycle bin. did you dl and run CCleaner like i suggested? stay away from the registry tools, just use the main "cleaner" tool. you can also try and system scan and repair: in the search window type in "cmd". when it lists, right click and choose run as administrator. this will open up command prompt. the cursor will auto reside next to "C:\Windows\system32" type in "sfc /scannow" and press enter. wait for the system check to complete (takes a few minutes). this will verify your files and find any integrity violations and replace them. you'll have to restart the computer if anything was found and repaired. just an fyi, nothing is stored on your cpu. all of your files (OS and personal) are stored on your drives (ssd or hdd). you can run CHKDSK for data corruption or dl and run a program like CrystalDiskMark. |

also, a System Restore only effects system files not data files.

Well so i talked to a DS tech in a short few emails before they closed tonight. I brought up a system restore. He suggested a windows reinstall. Will this not get rid of all my data files for the bnet app?

what do you mean by your roomy being "networked to you"? unless he's able to log on to your bnet account i wouldn't think simple file sharing over a home network would cause your problem. if someone's logging in on your account other than you, and/or using at the same time you're trying to Blizz would be able to tell.
i'm betting that your bnet data got corrupted, possibly a registry issue as well. a fresh windows install should fix it. just make sure when you dl next time that you put it on the correct drive you want it on and leave it there ![]() |
