With USB 3.0 SSD drives coming into the market and machines already able to boot off of USB, what do you think about splurging on internal SSD drives now vs. spending the money on the latest MoBo (see the new Asus X58 option@DigitalStorm) to get an external SSD later

Here is an example from a nearby neighbor of DigitalStorm (that happens to make your souvenir drives usually. if they are getting into USB 3.0 SSD game, I wonder who else will soon)

        USB 3.0 Ext SSD Drive

Cheers
New Rig:
HAF 932,

Win 7 Pro 64
No SSD yet :(

first off evga has the latest mobo and the better IMO. tho I see the asus has the new sata and usb rates now, which is great, but I just don't trust asus anymore, last time I recommended them, they make look like an idiot.

second what mobo you get depends on your needs, how many gpus do you need for your resolution? how many pci cards will you have?

third unless the mobo supports usb/sata 3.0 what good is a usb/sata 3.0 ssd gonna do for you?

maybe I'm not understanding your questions right.

just putting it out there, but when USB 3.0 or Sata6 is active, your PCI-E 16x becomes 8x. or atleast that's how the Gigabyte UDX series are.

USB boot is not good, If you have an external drive you'll know what I mean.
Even using as storage it sucks. Movies and such I always end up copying/pasting from usb to my internal harddrive.

I think your question was SSD now for boot or wait for the 6gbps Transfer rate USB 3.0 drives.
I would personally go SSD now, and also go USB3.0 in future for storage.

Thanks for the inputs. Yes, my thought was about waiting for the high gps USB 3 drives and its relationship to investing in a mobo that supports it now. This was important enough for me to be able to move around large files or for backups

I had a pretty good history with Asus and no history with EVGA. My machine has entered Stage 5 so I suppose I'll see how their board does at the end of the day.
