Hi there,
Trying to see 1) if there's a point to going above a 850 pro (512gb or 1TB) and get a samsung 950 pro if my goal is to ensure best BOOTUP speed and game loading speed. I've tried to hard googling and youtubing and some are saying 850 pro actually boots up faster than the 950pro. (I don't do heavy projects so crazy transfer rate for big files don't apply t me) 2) if these NVM express drives are really worth getting for the reasons above, which is better? The samsung 950 pro or the intel 750 series? Again, the interwebs are telling me that intel seeeems to be slower but 950 heats up? and how do you even cool down an SSD?! thanks guys |

hmm, looking at the specs, absolutely i agree, but to lay this question to rest, in terms of just win 10 startup/boot up time, will i see a significant difference? thanks!!!

You should be, its a much faster drive so it will do everything faster, if you are on a hdd right now it will blow your pants away.
Boot/load/read/write all are much faster. Edited by DST4ME - 03 Jul 2016 at 11:50am |

the Samsung 950 Pro "heats up" because of the m.2 slot profile (it lies flat against the mobo). if you put it in a pcie adapter card and slot it into a pcie x16 slot it won't have those heat issues. also, i know of one mobo in particular (the Asus X99 Deluxe and possibly the "Z" board version as well) that has an m.2 slot that protrudes vertically from the mob rather than lie down on it, so no heat issues with that config either.
for your mobo with a normal m.2 slot configuration even having a case fan blowing directly on the drive won't help because it's the underside of the drive, where it contacts the board, that heats up. i have the Intel 750 pcie drive myself. it is supposedly a little slower than the Samsung 950 Pro. is the difference in drive speed (and its associated cost) worth it between these nvme drives and a fast SATA drive? will you notice that speed difference? yes and no. if you have the budget i say, "why not?" if you are having to make other (more important) trade offs, then i'd say, "No". we're literally talking seconds of difference, not minutes when it comes to boots and level loading in games. |
