What would be the best SSD for an OS that is offered by DS of course, I don't want a huge 160GB one just something, that only the OS will run on, and then everything else such as programs and files and things will be used on secondary storage, please let me know =D it would be a great help

OCZ vertex II, its not out yet but should be out very soon, its going to be much faster then any SSD drive out now, and we are thinking pricing should be better also.

Do you have a website with the specs, and also isnt there problems with the read and write times on SSD's because I don't want the thing to crap out on me in a few years, just things I have heard and never looked into because never really had a chance to get one in my computer up until now.

Ahhhhhhh ic ic, but yea man oh man half a gig a second for a read speed.......thats nuts and being able to write almost half a gig a second to a drive would be a dream come true haha =D I would invest in two amd use one smaller one for my OS and a bigger one for just backup and storage........hmmmmm well it will be awhile before I even get my computer so atleast by the time I do the new intel procs will be out, as well as the evga x58 classified, and maybe even the OCZ vertex II, and i could only hope for the new ATI vid cards just to see those benchmarks haha =P

atcually you won't be able to go past sata 2.0's 300MB/s limit, with sata 3.0 you will see higher speeds

http://www.dvnation.com/Fusion-IO-IODrive-SSD-Solid-State-Disk-Drive-Review.html
This is a review of the 64 gb SSD Fusion that is pci express. Looks like it will run at the max speed(although i could be wrong since i'm not tech savy) but blows out the raptors by a ton. Like 300 times faster then a raptor and 5.5 times faster then other SSD. One of the concerns I had looking at them was life span compared to a harddrive. According to this review the average, lower end, life span is 51 years and higher end is 110 years . Looks like they fixed that problem . Now price wise no clue was to afraid to go look anywhere but i'll waith and see what the price is for the 320 when it comes out later this month or in april. though my wife is wanting me to order the computer now. thats a change for her I think she knows it may get more expensive then $3225. |

Well even if that's a fake website I wouldn't be surprised if it actually was that expensive.
Person1:Hey my PC cost me $10,000 Person2:Wtf? Person1:Yeah the harddrive alone cost $7000. |

guys first off bullseyehk's link is of "fusion io" and not "fusion io duo", duo has a 1500MB/s read and a 1400MB/s write speed.
fusion io dirves are more for business/servers and they do cost an arm and a leg. vertex 2 however is not gonna be prices the same way at all. Edited by DST4ME - 14 Mar 2009 at 8:14pm |

This link says the fusion io duo is gonna be out in april and will cost a bit under $30 for a useable gigabyte....wth does that mean...its the very last paragraph.

found this on another site about potential cost of the duo...
The 1.28TB drive won’t land until the second half of 2009, but the smaller 160GB, 320GB and 640GB models will be available from April 2009. No word on pricing, but given that the 320GB original model costs $14,400 this isn’t going to be a cheap storage upgrade. am i looking at the wrong fusion SSD's or are they really this expensive? |

they are pricey, the current fusions are very pricey if the duo has double the performance if the original then the price could be around there.

found this review on new egg on a generic 128 gig SSD.
Pros: Install no problem on 64-bit xp. Bought this drive solely to increase in-game load times. The drive has definitely delivered. Load time went from 45 second start up to about 8. Note: online game. Cons: Had to buy a 2.5 to 3.5 converter dock kit. SSD will be made in 3.5 eventually, but for now you need to get a converter. Other Thoughts: A few game optimizations had to be made first to achieve the best results. I like the drive enough so far I might consider buying a second one for raid-0. I'd definitely recommend buying this SSD |

but we are not talking about those SSDs, if it was those old SSDs then I would still recommend the veloci as I have done so for the past 11 month, however the vertex 2 looks very promising and to dismiss it without seeing some benchmarks/reviews/pricing, IMO is a mistake.
as for SSDs being 2.5 yes ofcourse but putting it a 3.5 dock takes a minute, followed by another minute to install it. |

so if these things are gonna cost $30 per usable gig then is 640 dollars gonna be worth having your os and games worth loading faster?

I notice that other people are finally coming to the realization that DST4ME is actually a Digital Storm "bot". Every once in a while, the "bot" will reboot or something and not respond for 30 minutes or more. But this is rare!

@ O.K.
@ bullseyehk, the fusion io duo drives are not going to be worth it to me and you, but the vertex 2 should have better pricing and very useful to me and you if the price is right that is, if the vertex 2 comes out with crazy pricing they can kiss my... well you know |

SATA 2.0 has 300MB/s transfer rate and the vertex 2 should max that, veloci does 1/3 of that. thats in read and write speed.
in seektime, vertex basically has no seektime so it wins on that hands down also. |

$14,000 for 320GB? holy jumpin jesus, no wonder why the $1.00 bill is now worthless :x talk about price inflation and tech price inflation, that one takes the cake. If they say it lasts 50 years or whatever, I have a hard time believing that, infact I think it's just a way to make a sale. Think about it, buying one of those damn 320GB SSD's is already paying for their electric, heating, property tax, etc etc :x
