Thought I would check in on order status.. My email showed the system shipping between 9/26-9/28 (realize this is only an estimate), but when I look it up it shows up as still in Stage I as of today. From emails it seemed that you guys were mostly through the order pileup.
Is there a problem with my rig (#5256) or just delayed? No problems either way, just checking.. ![]() Thanks! Chris Edited by thecomplex - 01 Oct 2007 at 9:58am |

My order (#5248) is still in stage 1 as well, and I was given the same shipping estimate as you were (9/26-9/28).
In my case, I called last week just to see if the estimate was still valid and the customer service rep I talked to told me it was, that my machine would be entering stage 2 last week. (It didn't.) Since then, I called to make a minor alteration to my order but I specifically said I didn't want to make the change if it was going to delay my machine. I was assured that the change I was requesting (I added a 2nd hard drive) wasn't going to delay anything since they were still pulling parts for my order and hadn't started assembly yet, so I went ahead and did it. My (very minor) gripe is that I've been told twice now (once from the initial estimate and once from the customer service rep I spoke to by phone last week) that my machine would be entering stage 2 at least last week, and it didn't. Not a huge problem, but it's really about expectation-setting. If I had been told I wasn't going to get my machine shipped for 2 months, I wouldn't have anything to be disappointed about now. But I was given an estimate (which, while only an estimate, was confirmed by that rep when I called in) of 6-8 business days from my order, and I'm not going to be anywhere close to that. At any rate, it sounds like the backlog that Alex told us about in his "Shipping Delay" post is still going on. I'm just a bit disappointed since he posted an update in that thread saying that they were back on schedule, which either isn't true, or they have a new backlog that they haven't told us about yet, or the estimates weren't right to begin with. Again, it's just an issue of setting the right expectation. When DS does everything else so right, it's hard to understand why they can't get a handle on this piece. |

I can't express enough that you should be sending private PMs to Alex direct with your concerns. You'll find much better response times and more direct info about your situation if everyone would use the correct channels.
I'm not trying to be pissy about this, but protocol is everything when trying to get things done like this. Holler at Alex via PM. |

I'm not really in a hollering mood, which is why I am not PMing anyone or calling. If I was so upset that I was going to cancel my order (or even if I was beginning to regret ordering from DS), then I wouldn't even be PMing - I'd be picking up the phone and calling people. I'm not at that point - I'm not cancelling my order, and I'm not sorry I'm using DS. Their pricing, customer service, and knowledge/interaction with their customers has been better than expected on all counts except for this one minor issue of properly communicating lead times/shipping dates.
My motivation in posting was to let people know what my experience with DS has been so far, just as most everyone else who posts positive things in this forum (as I have, a few times) is motivated to do. This forum was an invaluable resource when I selected DS for my next computer, and I think most people considering a DS purchase come to these forums to be aware of the "warts and all" end-to-end experience. Again, I am extremely pleased with DS so far, this is just one minor issue that I felt like sharing. EDIT: 3 hours after I wrote this post, I got an e-mail indicating that my machine had gone into phase 2. So, in the end, my machine will only be shipping 4-6 business days (I assume stage 3 takes 1 day) later than the original estimate that I had been given - for the quality of machine I know it'll be, a week-ish later than originally promised is not a terribly big deal. We are on track. Just as of today, three additional assembly personel have finished their training session and are in full effect.
My inbox is full again? Sorry about that, I wish it would notify me when it is full or automatically delete old messages.

I did a check on the floor to get the status of these two orders:
5256 - Is just about to have it's OS and drivers installed. Should enter testing today and ship out Friday if there are no problems. 5248 - Is having it's liquid cooling system installed today. Provided there are no problems it should ship out Thursday. Hope the info helps. |
