Hi

I am brain dead asking simple questions, but sometimes I get confused.

I have UEFI BIOS Asus Maximus VII Hero (signature).
 Just got GTX 1080.

What are the software installation steps.

If I have Secure Boot, do I need to disable it?

My UEFI motherboard BIOS is from November 2014, GTX 1080 is fairly new card, do I have to flash BIOS to the latest version? GTX 1080 has UEFI BIOS.
If I have to flash BIOS, this basically will clear all BIOS settings, correct? I have CPU overclock, so I would have to do everything again (forgot already)?

Can I just update drivers through GForce Experience, or I need to do a clean install? It is just upgrade NVIDIA to NVIDIA? Can I just update NVIDIA driver first, to the lates version and then install GTX 1080?

Appreciate for suggestions as akways.

I'm on my phone at the moment so can't type much, but you might check this out if you haven't already:

On the software end of things, swapping from Nvidia to Nvidia might not need anything but the hardware install Tidgxor referenced.  The drivers are the same.   It isn't a bad idea, however, to do a clean install of the latest known good drivers by downloading from Geforce site.

Chances are just the hardware swap is all you need.  That's all I did with my last upgrade.   Big%20Smile

Thanks for replies

Hardware install is easy, relatively, I would have to just check my modular PSU diagram and swap, most likely, cables, since GTX 970 using 2 x 6 pin power connectors and GTX 1080 using only one 8 pin connector - just opened the case, yes I have to rewire.

My main concern was - my BIOS is almost 3 years old, from November 2014, and the 1080 is much younger (however it has UEFI BIOS as well). Would it work?

Driver Fusion or DDU in Safe Mode if necessary - no problem, just a hassle.

Edit
Looks like I don't have to do rewiring, just undo some tight DS cable management - all PSU VGA connectors are 8 pin, so video card suppose to have 2 x 6 pin connectors with 2 x2 pin connectors hidden from plain view.

Glad to hear everything worked out.

If you choose Custom on NVidia install.
There is an option for clean install.

I do find this helps when trying multiple drivers or switching GPU's.

As to the BIOS if it isn't broke don't mess with it unless you find out that you really need something from the update.

warning could possibly brick your motherboard
[small chance but is a chance].

Simply Copy your current overclock profile to one of the saved profiles as well as to a USB if given choice.
Good chance after new Bios installed you will lose all profiles.

reset all settings to default save and reboot.

Put your Bios update [Cap file or whichever you decided to go with]
on a thumb drive formatted in FAT32 [Others work but safer]

place it in a USB 2.0 slot [ just to be safe]

reboot PC

Enter the BIOS screen
Go To Tools

Click update Bios
you should see your file
choose it and let it do the work.

cross fingers, and wahlah new updated Bios

reload your overclock profile

ps. Make sure power won't go out during this process and that you download the file from manufacturer website.

Good luck !!

I would leave bios alone, only update it when necessary.

Upgrade is done. I had to use DDU for NVIDIA drivers clean install, no problems with BIOS.

Now looking for monitor forum - overclocked mine, but surprising issues appeared.

Thanks everyone for support
