Oh yeah, the dominator didn't have that option, but does have a HDMI output with 1080p, the Benshmark does but no HDMI?

I was aware of that, but does the crusher give a 1080p output? its not stated in the discription but is on the Dominator.

1080P is a file format, the port has no baring on that.
what I mean is that if you have a 1080P movie file letst say, and you got your laptop connected to a monitor/tv that can do 1080P with a dvi cable, then you will watch the movie in 1080P. hdmi dvi Component all can do 1080P does that make sene, or am I repeating things you already know? It was my understanding, but I am open to correction that If I play a HD DVD I require a grapics card that will give a 1080p output to veiw the film in HD, for example Dell XPS has a Blue Ray player and HDMI port but does not gives less than a 1080p output from what I remember it was below all HD resolution (again i will take advice as I can not remember where I found it out) and now I am a little weary as to what I am looking at.

1080P is something your monitor needs to be able to support and then you would need a hi-def connection like the 3 I named and then you need a movie file to be in 1080P format.
the xps supports 1080P when available. bulray is only in 1080P format. if you try and watch a 480i DVD thru a hdmi port, its still going to come out in 480i format, cards, ports, monitors can't convert 480i to 1080P. I think you are under the misunderstanding that the dell with its hdmi or the gaming dominator with its hdmi, will show you everything in 1080P. If that is what you are thinking, then you are mistaken. in order to watch something in 1080P first the file format needs to be in 1080P. then you need the GPU to process it, the port to pass it thru and a monitor to show it, if any of those are not/don't support 1080P you will not be watching anything in 1080P. does that makes sense? Yes I think you miss understood me I understand I need the format + card +port + monitor. I also understand that a port doesn't convert anything and if you put 480 in, you get 480 out, unless you have the kit in the machine to render it to a different resolution. With the XPS (it was some time ago) I remember discarding it when I started looking into it because the output from the HDMI was not in the HD range if I could quote it I would show you, and thefore if you conected the computer to a 1080p moniter/Tv you would not be watching a 1080p picture.
or have I completly missed somthing??

hdmi can do 1080P so if it had hdmi or dvi, then wathing 1080P was only a matter of a movie that was in 1080P and a monitor that could do 1080P.
the only real difference between dvi and hdmi is that hdmi carries lossles signal and audio. so in short what ever hdmi can do dvi can do, you can also get an adapter from DS to convert the dvi to hdmi if the monitor has only hdmi input. If that xps had bluray then it could do 1080P. any system you see here that has bluray can do 1080P, as long as the gpu has hdmi or dvi output. the benchmark crusher can do 1080P thru dvi. BTW I have a few xps's, which one are you referring to? Edited by DST4ME - 14 Oct 2008 at 6:52am |

Honestly I can not remember (age thing) I was all for the dell at one point untill I started looking into the HD output thing and I wish I could find where it was but it showed the output resolution it was when I went hunting for reveiws so could have been anywhere, the output reseloution quoted (and it was more than one place)was way less than 1080p or 1080i and thats when I started looking for another place to get a quality Laptop from and came across DS. it was back before DS actually started selling Laptops so June maybe

I see, be careful with review.
in short if it has a bluray and the GPU has a dvi or hdmi output, then it can do 1080P, there would be nothing stopping it, unless the monitor/TV didn't support it. also like to point out that DS has been selling laptops for a long time, but they stopped there fora short time, and if you visited then, you would have no way of knowing. Just FYI. well its a good thing you are here, cause now you can actually upgrade things in your laptop and DS's customer svc, trumps the heck out of dell's customer svc. Did another post www.digitalstormonline.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=3595&KW=crarrv&PID=35155#35155 with reference to the configuration with the benchmark crusher and they offered to stick a QX9770 in there if I wanted.
Coments!

I think thats me informing you that the laptop comes with a q9550 but later down the road you can go upto qx9770, assuming the heat would not be a problem.
unless you are referring to a different comment that I missed. |

I can understand that, so why not dual boot xp 32 bit and vista 64 bit, this way you can get comfrotable with vista 64bit and it can run most anything.
Just something to think about, at the end you go with what ever you think is right for you |

you're going to use that for work/mobility? Its going to be HUGE!! I had a similar laptop from another company and it weighed around 13lbs. Not fun to take on business/school trips at all. Go with a 15 inch if you want anything really mobile imo.

If I get to work out as well, a bonus , Ive been lugging around a company secure Toughbook and thats ok although people do tend to have a second look as its one of the most uglest things, weight is not a particular issue but thanks for the comment. Once at a place I tend to stay static for a while (hence wanting to cart a desktop about).
Any thing else you would change/suggest?
I'm open to opinion

Oh- well in that case you might as well go all out performance. I like your setups above. Not much to comment.
If you are hooked on using HDMI, they make a DVI to HDMI converter peice. I received two of them with my 2 280 GTX. If you want I can send you one (free), as I really don't have any need for either of them.

you can ask DS to include that converter
good idea MNY. crarrv, your system looks great, only thing I like to add is that if you get your game and ms office from another place you may find a better price, but if thats not that important to you then go with what you got. I don't like raid, used it for a while and found it to be more of a pain in the arse then the pros it had. if one drive goes bad, you lose data on both drives. but thats just me let me know if you have anyother questions. |
