Good Evening,
I am moving and my system will be in storage for about 5 months. Should I remove everything and pack it separately or keep everything in the tower and just make sure nothing will move around and break? Opinions? |

You should be fine to leave everything in the tower. If it is going to be moved much to/from storage I would re-insert the internal foam (if your rig came with it) for good measure. I've stored PCs for many years before and never had to remove anything from the case. The only thing you might consider removing would be your SSD/HDD if there is sensitive/etc. information on it and you don't feel like it would be safe to leave. Though again a lot of that is based on where you are storing the rig. If your storage is going to be dry with low humidity then you're probably good to just cover the rig or put it back into the original box if you have that. If the storage area might get wet or have high humidity, you'll want to look into some form of sealed plastic container/wrap to keep it in as well as moisture control to prevent a build-up of moisture inside the case.

Just to add...removing all the components is much more likely to cause physical damage, static hits then just leaving everything in place. Assembled components tend to protect each other when everything is locked down properly.

Just shut down, turn off psu and remove all connections/wires and remember where you store them. Tidgxor and bprat22 got you covered. Good luck.

Yep. Write it down, label with stickers and use a bloodhound to sniff it out.
