So recently I've been searching high and low as I'm about to buy my next big system. I wasn't planning on building it myself, but this afternoon I pieced out everything from my DS build and I'm a bit surprised to see the numbers.

My $10,000 DS build I was looking at (Maxed Out Stage 4 Adventum) came in at $9800.00. I took all the raw pieces and went over to a common online site and priced them out. My total was $5200.00.

This incluced everything BUT:
Labor
Case
Cooling
Warranty

So I knew I was paying a premium to have it built but I was honestly thinking it would be closer to 10-20% of the cost. I never expected to see such a gap. Can I really be expected to pay an additional $4600.00 for a Case, Cooling, and a System Warranty?

I'm a little shocked at the moment. I'm not at all dishing on Digital Storm. I think they are the best out of the box manufacturer. I'm just a little surprised at the mark up. Am I missing components or an underlying cost somewhere?

Hard to say, lets see your configuration build # and your wishlist on said online site.

Right out of the gate I don't see OS, Case, Fans, Overclocking of CPU, GPU, Warranty of build, Customer Service, Case Lighting, Recovery Tools,H2O Cooling..You are missing a lot, and I think you are not too well informed.
I'm sure if I had the inclination I could find more.

This is like asking why buy a Super Car from the dealer when I can get the parts cheaper than what they sell the complete car for. Come on !

Its pretty simple really: Cyro-TEC + Labor + 20% + The DS In-House Built Case + All other components + Warranty = Your Cost

So nope, I don't think you are missing anything.

If you don't want the Cyro-TEC cooling, there are far, far lower premiums to be had with DS's other options. As thats really what drives the cost up for your build.

Think I found the gap I was looking for. I actually went back and chose a lower tier Adventum machine and then tried to build "up" to the Tier 4. It's there I saw DS wants $2100.00 for Cryo-TEC cooling. So if yuou take that out the mix, then its only about 2000-2400 for case, labor, overclocking, fans, warranty etc which I do think should run about that. My mistake was in not realizing how much Cryo costs.

You cant justify the price for having the ultimate. If you have to ask the price you  cant afford it.Thats for the less than 1% of the population that can afford it and dont have a heart attack on what it cost. Cryo-Tec isnt for everyone. Just someone who wants the ultimate package.

Your ddx performance/price declines rapidly after 2.5k with gaming and 3.5k for digital editting. I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a PC and not have it built by DS for safety's sake.
