First, I want to say I really like how much the configuration page has improved since I first visited Digital Storm. A tremendous amount of hard work has been poured into improving the customer experience and it shows.

In offering advice to others looking to build a new system, I often find myself wishing there were a couple of additional options in the air cooling selections.

Here is what I propose:

Stage 1: Stock cooling.

Stage 2: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro only

Stage 3: Upgraded case fans only

Stage 4: Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and upgraded case fans

Stage 5: 120mm based HSF such as the Thermalright TRUE, Xigmatek HDT series, or Zalman 9700 and upgraded case fans.

Edit (3/6): In order for this to work, air and liquid cooling would require separate drop down boxes. There are so many options in the single drop down selections box as it stands that more might make a suboptimal situation worse, and in order to combine proper case cooling with CPU only liquid cooling, this would be necessary.

I suggest this, because I believe the addition of a 120mm based HSF is something people purchasing a quad core would be interested in, but also because for those purchasing a system with a liquid chilled CPU only, the option to select the case fans only (for better GPU cooling) is not available. I did not include an option to select a 120mm based HSF separately to keep the number of selections down, as if you need this type of HSF, you probably want the additional case air flow as well.

The naming scheme could remain as "Stage 1-5" or could be altered to match the storm category theme now found in the pre-configured system selections.

If anyone think this idea has merit, or if anyone thinks it's lame and I should just STFU please post feedback with suggestions or thoughts.

Sounds good to me, I would separate air cooling and liquid cooling when making your selections. If you choose to liquid cool your CPU and have only one video card you may want to upgrade your case fans. That should be an option without having to call.
I was hoping I could get the Xigmatek  HDT-S1283
with my order. The current aftermarket CPU cooler that is offered is better than stock but there are a lot of coolers that perform much better.
This site is the best for CPU cooling.

Thanks for the feedback Glenn. No one else?

I didn't think this idea was *that* bad.

Yeah you can actually request it in a comment box, but most people dont know that, DS also does case mods which again, most people dont know about.

Plus adding these in comment boxes seems to increase the chances they get overlooked. Ive seen quite a few people missing things theyve requested later on or in the comment box..

Having these options out there in the selection screen should improve knowledge of and decrease the amount of errors.

I like your get up. Though some people might get confused a bit cause theyd assume higher stages are better. But really stage 2 and 3 are sorta two different things all together.

I support this idea as a future customer, would like to have these options as part of the config page.  Besides who doesn't like options on custom built computers?
