Just looking and converting, this would be your equivelent with a DDR3 MOBO and memory. No other changes have been made. Also, if your going to have the Asus MOBO put in i would add about $150 to be safe.

Hard Drive 1: 750GB Western Digital (7200 RPM) (16MB Cache) (SATA) (Extreme Speed)
change your HDD to a smaller one instead get an 80GB HDD for your OS. you don't want a huge drive for your OS, it will be a pain to defrag and all kinds of stuff. best thing to do is what I do, get a raptor 10,000RPM drive for the OS then get a regular big old 7200RPM driver thats 500GB or 700GB. my OS is on a raptor so things are moving fast but all my file sharing and busy HDD stuff is on another bigger drive. this way when filesharing or what ever my OS drive does not see that much work and will last longer. also if something happens to my OS driver my files are not touched and vise versa. I aside from my raptor I have 2 other internal HDDs and 4 external HDDs 2 of the externals are backups, one is a copy of my OS drive and one is a copy of my drive that has all my music, video, documents etc. long story short, you have HDDs right now, put them them use and save some money, either get a 7200rpm 80GB or a 10,000rpm 74GB either way no reason to pay so much for a 750GB drive. there is my 2cents ;) |

Thank you for your input. I got some advice earlier to do more research on monitors and get one off site. Great suggestion. I found out that manufacturers will be coming out with 22" displays at 1900 * 1200 res. so now I need a system to push a higher res. for gaming. I will be getting a second video card next march and will get this pc in dec. in the mean time I will just limp along with my 19" CRT. So here is my build, please let me know your thoughts. thanks, dave

thanks, is that for price reasons? I was also thinking of asking for and seagate 500 gb drive w/ 32mb cache. How hard is it to set up a second HDD? I've build two pc's now but don't trust myself to build a good gaming machine so my knowledge is a bit limited.

its a very easy, all you have to do is put the drive in the bay (which is probably matter of 4 screws) and connect the data and power cable to the back of the HDD which is as simple as one of the pics below
yes the price is only reason which is why I want you to compare and see if its cheaper to get it from newegg or amazon vs getting it here, check first maybe teh price is the same as here, if it is then just get it from here, besure to take into account the cost of shipping also ;) Edited by DST4ME - 14 Apr 2008 at 11:34pm |

If you are going to supply the extra hd yourself, ask them to run the cables for it. No sense in messing up such a pretty wiring job.

that is very true, another thing I found out about DS is that they will do these types of stuff for you.
