$3,500 Expectations: Be able to rub Cold War and Fortnite as well as other games at super high performance. Usage: Gaming and work like web browsing and downloading documents. If it's in your budget, it will never hurt to get the fastest parts you can for longevity of the build. Not overkill.
It is remarkable how many folks here build a killer rig and think nothing of those little initials NVMe. All that means is a primary SSD that is 5 times or more faster than the DS "Performance Series"! Ditch that SATA DS SSD for a Firecuda if you want to go smaller, or the Samsung 980 PRO if you still want 1 TB. IMHO, the cost savings helps at the 500 GB level, but at the 1TB level, they are both about the same, so Samsung wins. With an NVMe drive running on the PCIe bus instead of SATA, just about everything is instant. That's the only change you need to make. |

I agree with Cretae, those little M.2s which interface through the PCIe are way faster than the ones that interface through SATA. NVMe and SATA M.2s are both SSDs so they cause some confusion but are they different!!! Enjoy.
