So I was rifling through the paper today and came across a Dell(GASP) page promoting one of their new XPS machines, so I went online to see what they had to offer.

DSO might have some actual competition from them for a gaming rig now, at least price wise...

Sorry, have to disagree.

I went to that site and tried to configure something even close to mine. And you can not!

The processor is limited choice and no over clocking available. The best memory is at 4 G is the 800 RAM.  No choice for duel video cards. No choice on any extra cooling.  Limited options for hard drive and CD / DVD players.

Sure, if you look only at the price, it may look like a value.  But, if you compare it to what DSO offers, Dell’s system is a joke.

Dell might be ok for non-serious gamers or for those that just want to play the SIMS or music from Limewire. But, for my money I want the very best there is for that money. I want to play my games maxed out and enjoy all of the glory!

Just my opinion.

I definitely didn't mean on the higher end of things, but to compete with the lite it would be an interesting battle. And if you remove the monitor you still get a q6600, 8800gt, 3gigs 800mhz ram for $1200-1300.

Obviously you don't get a real warranty, any choice for mobo's, or any form of overclocking.

DSO won't be able to compete on the low-level systems.  Dell has the sheer size to be able to offer complete packages for less than $500 - including a monitor.5

That last post from you I agree with, Sundowner.

I spent months researching before I went with DSO.  I picked them for their extreamly highend systems and the price for them, along with real customer service.

Wanna see something scary?  Go to Falcon Northwest and try to configure a rig like mine. Thousands more.  Heck, try it with any of the "highend" builders.

And, bottom line.  Even though there are long waits and occasional communications breakdowns with DSO, they still answer the phone and Alex has answered every email I ever sent him with quality answers.

DSO just makes you feel like they can not wait to get a super system in your hands.

Try calling Dell some day, its halarious!

Oh, and when you get a Dell, its loaded with JUNK!  I spent hours getting all of the rubbish off of my neighbor's system when he got it.  And that was only half the battle.

For giggles, I went to the Falcon site after I posed this.  To come close, not exact or as good to what my system is over 1300 bucks more than my DSO rig!

Whats even more halarious?  I was looking over Falcon's site.  A link on that site to check your PC speeds links you to a site that you have to see who the advertiser is:

Click it!  It Made me laugh!  Still laughing. Poor, poor Falcon.

Out of all the gaming boutiques, the cheapest companies were DSO/Ibuypower/And the other one that looks just like Ibuypower. Price wise IBP is probably a bit cheaper, but once you read the reviews on reseller ratings, it makes it an easier choice.

I was just shocked to see dell offer something that powerful for that cheap, but I doubt I would buy another computer from them considering how much of a hassle it would be to upgrade parts in the future, let alone the crappy warranty.

Not sure how appreciated links to competitors are...

Anyway, I've seen the quality involved with the construction of  products offered by some of the other businesses mentioned, and they don't compare. As far as the larger online merchants, I was happy to pay a little more to not recieve a computer with half the cables left unconnected and simply tossed into the case before shipping (true stories, browse the retailer rating pages for some of the other companies mentioned.) I am also quite happy not to get shuffled off to an answering service in India.

Anyone can offer to sell you a price. I didn't want to buy a price, I wanted to purchase a product backed by service. Fortunately for me, DSO offers this. Fortunately for DSO, companies that have the buying power to truly dominate the market never seem to be able to look past a quarterly profit report.

Dell pushes India also, but I'm not buying it.

I'm not quite sure what that means.

DEATH TO DELL!!! Thumbs%20Down I completely disagree that delll will ever compete.  They are producing to the masses, and most if not all DS customers are anything but "the masses."  Dell....btx mobos, nonupgradable moneypit machines.  the walmart of pc's, but yes they do a great job in their market.  so does walmart.

and I'd rather pay a bit more, (even though it's not much if any) for a quality system.  you get what you pay for.

instead of an ultra they had 1 gt and instead of 4 gig at 1066 megahertz they had 4 gig at 800 megahertz.... so im guessing it would have been over 4.2 k if they had it
