I am looking for a computer that is UBER cheap, comes with a monitor, can internet surf easily, and allows for casual gaming like CS:S or CS1.6, or even half life.

All of the games I will play are going to be on low settings, because I dont really like to maxx out all settings.

I would get the cheaper processors, but they are AM2, and im not sure about the compatibility with AM3 sockets. Do AM3 sockets support AM2 Processors? Backwards compatible?
Thanks.

How is this config?

AM2 / AM3 Sockets info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM3. As far as playing HL you should be fine as I can play alot of games on low settings with a ATI X1300 in a crappy D3LL that I use for internet ect. Not the best gaming exper though. You may want WIN 7 PRO if you use alot of XP programs- PRO provides backward comp with XP programs. But if you are on a tight budget what you have will work for your intended purpose.

I just need a computer to get me through the day, really. Would 2 gb of 1600 or 4 gb of 1333 be better?

i would go with 4 or 6 , 2 would make it slow for multitasking. Chec the mother board spec on line but I think 1333 is the " native" speed  1600 is faster but by how much i havent checked in a long time

The mother boards will list specs as 1066- 1333 and 1600 OC and or 2000 OC- 1333 would be fine for what your doing . I think this is same MB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131609&cm_re=ASUS_M4A785T-M%2fCSM-_-13-131-609-_-Product

dont know, but even some of the cheapest monitors you see in the stores look okay. Not many the cheap ones are  videophile quality but I'm sure the ACER'S  DS sells are good enough as starter monitors- some of the ACER monitors get decent reviews. But you will always find one better but at a price-----------. i think for a barebones gaming / multi purpose system the monitors they sell would be good. Even the most expensive monitors have some quirks- like bleeding around edges when the backgroung is dark ect. Just depends how much cash you have and how picky you are about it.
