I'm looking for buying a headset. Many online reviewers recommended Razer's Blackshark V2 (with USB sound card). Now this headset is my main choice. But I am a bit confused about the surround capabilities. according to the product description this headset supports THX Spatial surround sound. What does it exactly mean? suppose Apex Legends also supports THX Spatial but say Battlefield 5 doesn't. does it mean that I won't get any surround sound (Spatial or not) in Battlefield (only stereo). In other words, the surround feature is only works in games that supports THX spatial.

I don't have those exact Razer headsets but I do own the Razer Kraken headset and love them.

I had to go to the Razer site to see what is out there now. I would be willing to bet, that if you download and install Razer Synapse program for all your Razer peripherals, you will have the option to set the sound to THX Spatial or to your specific headset which will include settings for Steareo, 7.1 Surround Sound or Game Mode), as in mine. I however, would have to download the THX Spatial module at an additional cost. I don't feel the need as Razer's 7.1 sound through Synapse is fantastic as it is.

I bet money your are covered and have the options for the sound you want and need with those headsets.

I have the Razer Blackshark V2 pro. As stated above, in order to get the THX feature to work, you have to pay to download the THX module.

I only play the Digital Combat Simulator flight sim - the headset works fine for me without having to pay for a THX download. Maybe you can find a free trial of the THX feature to see if the extra money is worth it to you.

If you set the sound through Razer Synapse to 7.1 you will be amazed. Hence the reason I never got the THX stuff.

Hi,
The Razer Blackshark V2 headset with USB sound card supports THX Spatial surround sound, which is a technology that creates a more immersive audio experience by simulating a surround sound environment. This means that in games that support THX Spatial, you will be able to hear sounds coming from different directions, such as behind you or to your left or right. However, if a game does not support THX Spatial, you will likely only be able to hear stereo sound, which means that the audio will be coming from the left and right speakers but not from any other directions. Therefore, in games that don't support THX spatial like Battlefield 5, you will only get stereo sound.

I am sorry, but Christian you are wrong. I never use THX Spatial as I have stated. I use Razer's 7.1 Surround AND I hear whatever is coming at me from whatever direction.

I suspect THX Spatial is much like speakers that tought "THX". You get more. By that I mean they could incorporate heavier magnets and drivers OR just a better DAC for decoding and producing the sound,OR both.

I haven't run across a game "that supports THX Spatial" and I truly suspect it's going to be like nVidia's SLI endeavor. Too costly to incorporate it in to games and hence dies a slow death. Up to you if you want it or not, but don't use it as a criteria for buying or not to buy a headset.

The THX module artificially creates a pseudo 7.1 sound field. THX is owned by Razer by the way - it will enhance the soundscape of most any game audio, but in games that are specifically encoded/certified to meet the THX input standard, it will give the fullest experience.

Her'e a pretty decent rundown:
