Well time to turn to you guys for help. I play WoW and every 15 seconds or so, the game studders and lags. when i looked it up i saw that Blizzard Blames Vista's SVhost process. When i would end the process it would run fine till Windows starts it back up. only one of them was being a problem. ive messed with the priority of CPU's (wow on one Sv on the other) and still the same problem. i know that wow is a memory hog but with 4GB and a GTX 260...
So for the info you all want to help me out. OS, Vista 64 Ultimate. CPU, XP 6400+ RAM, 4GB DDR2 800Mhz Vid, GTX 260, i play at 1600x1050 |

you mean svchost right not svhost, it needs to have that "c" in there, otherwise you might have a virus.
svchost.exe is a major part of the os you should not disable it, the OS useds it to run needed services. Edited by DST4ME - 13 Apr 2009 at 5:33pm |

I honestly dont think that any of the standard vista services are causing wow to lag. I have never seen that before. I also can run it, as well as many other programs on only 2gb and a lesser video card no issue.
What kind of add ons are you running for wow? |

aye it is svchost.exe. the one that causes problems for me doesnt hurt the system when its stopped. in this case when its CPU usage spikes the lag in wow starts.
As for addons, when im leveling an alt, Questhelper, DBM, recount, omen3, atlasloot and gatherer. i tend to try to run very little if i can.
Sarah are you running 32 bit or 64? from what the techs at WoW said its only present in 64. I can confirm that since i can dual boot 32 and 64, and the 32 has no problem. Edited by Kaleliar - 13 Apr 2009 at 8:54pm |

I run 64 bit.
So the add ons dont seem to be causing the problem. Have you ran a virus scan? It could also be a keylogger come to think of it. I had a friend with a similar problem, wow lag would spike for no explained reason. |

I'll look into that. what Anti virus would you suggest. i typically download my stuff from school where it is auto-scanned then bring it to my computer. for me i used to use AVG a lot but it seems very lack luster now.

Only reason im really doing this is because i will be selling my old rig and that means that ill leave the current OS intact. ill just remove all my games and redo the Admin account. not to mention my iTunes library will be moved... (its only 300GB)
Edit: well that and if i run into a similar problem... i dont want to have to format and reinstall the OS on the new rig. I have this friday off tho... maybe i should go and visit you guys (Digital Storm).. yall are only like 15 miles from where i live. Edited by Kaleliar - 15 Apr 2009 at 2:33pm |

if you sell your PC with your old HDD, what ever data you have on there can be found, never sell your PC with your HDD, put a cheap new one in there, unless of course the data on your PC is nothing of importance.
yes nod will find keylogers but you have make sure after install you set all the correct settings on nod32 or any anti virus, if you don't turn on all the security features then the av is not good. enable anti virus and anti spyware, potentially unsafe applications, threatSens and then nothing will get by. |

Heh, i wouldnt want to carry a full antec 900 through the BART... my car is 1000 miles from here so that makes things a bit difficult.
There really isnt any worry for me on data. ill be taking one drive with me (2x500GB) and the rest i dont really need to worry about. if necissary i can use DoD and wipe it. ill DL that right away DST. |

I didn't mean the whole case I just meant the HDD itself and you say there is no important data so then who get the HDD does not matter, I my comment was only for cases where you had important data at some point that can be recovered, which is not the case here.
before you san make your settings like this: nod settings |

found a major part of the issue was that not all of SP1 installed but it was showing up as "fully" installed. got an ISO reader and redid the SP1 and it works much better now.

Aye. I rolled it back also to the restore point before i tried the first time, and same problem. I had a couple of friends who were having issues do it, and we all came to the conclusion that the SP1 helps calm the "spikes" down.
On a different note: I got to meet Sarah!!! I was very happy that she took the time to visit with me briefly and help me understand what was delaying my PC. Since I don't want to step on DS's collective toes, I will let them reveal the information if they deem it needed in a different thread (likely the Hardware). |

I understood that fully. That was why I chose not to stick around for long. Y'all seemed to have other things to do and I know how annoying it can be to have someone "there" |
