Hi, first post, bought a pc from digital storm about two years ago and about 2 months after I got the windows bug where my disk usage is at 100% all the time, slowing my pc down to a crawl. I also only bought 8 gigs of ram planning to upgrade when I had more money. As for the disk usage bug I've done all the fixes and I'm a comp sci student so don't worry too much that I'm just not doing it right.
So, my questions for hard drives, 1) does write speed matter? can i put a faster/better 2tb hard drive in and not have to worry? 2) im also going to buy a solid state drive (500gb) and swap my O.S. on that baby, can i transfer my O.S. from my current 2tb seagate hard drive to a solid state drive on my own? Then my questions for ram. 3) i currently have 8gigs (two sticks of 4gb) of digital storm, ddr4, 3000mhz ram. if i were to buy 18 gigs of ddr4, 3000mhz and just swap them, would it work? 4) just to make sure, if i were to up the speed of them to something higher, it wouldnt work correct? 5)lastly, does my motherboard matter as far as ram compatability and does it matter for hard drive and solid state drive compatibility? (ending notes, sorry to ask so much of all of you i hope you all can help me out!) |

1...Yes, you can definitely swap to a faster drive.
2... you can clone an old to a new drive as long as the new drive is larger than the data being used on the older drive. For your new 500gb SSD your old HDD would have to have less than 500 GB on it. Otherwise, just reload os onto the new drive with install disc. 3...Yes, you can swap the 2x4 GB ram for 2x 8gb ram or 4x4Gb ram if your motherboard has 4 DIMM slots. 4... you don’t need faster ram for most applications, but if you went to faster ram, whether it works depends on the motherboard, cpu, etc. If it doesn’t work you can select different speeds in Bios. Hope this helps.
