Hey i currently own a alienware desktop (I know!) but i recently found out about digitalstorm through a friend and looking through you guys seem like the best choice out of alienware, cyberpower, ibuypower, and you guys.

Now I have a budget for what I can spend (1500-1600 USD) seeing as im going off to school but I was hoping one of you can help me build the laptop I am looking for.

My basic components I would want are

1. hybrid hard drive (space doesnt matter in this as long as it's atleast 500gb seeing as I can add a second hard drive in the future)

2. Bigfoot wireless network card seeing as I will need to be wireless in my dorm

3. A good graphics card to max or come close to maxing my games (Battlefield 3, Swtor, and your every day console ports) I was looking at the 7970m but We will see as far as my budget will allow

4. 17 inch display full 1080p (15 inch wouldnt be something im looking for.

5. Full sized keyboard.

I know this might be a heafty list but hopefully you guys can help me build my perfect laptop and maybe theres a back to school discount program im unaware of that you guys know about.

thanks! c:

Welcome to the community! I'm sure you will find a great number of options that we offer. For a gaming laptop, it's quite easy as the number of choices aren't as vast as our custom gaming desktops.

Since you want a 17" model, I would recommend looking at our X17 model. You might not get all of the items you wish, but you can come real close. Checkout this configuration for $1,645: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/gaminglaptoploadx17.asp?id=568651

If you can add a little more to your budget, you can also get the 7970M.

hmm would you say the 7970m is a necessary upgrade?

or even the upgrade to the bigfoot wireless card?

I heard the 675m is basically a 580m which is a great card but wouldnt it be better with newer drivers?

and the wireless card does that make a huge difference? I would be wireless the whole time pretty much

The 7970M makes a difference, but, not a very big one. If you have the extra cash, it's a great upgrade, not necessary.

The Big Foot wireless card is something that you don't really need, it's more of a marketing hype than anything really. The Intel wireless card is more than enough for even a hardcore PC gamer.

I have the x17 and would agree with Alex. I have the Bigfoot Killer card and I really don't see the difference. I just had the money to burn so I got it.

I also have the 7970M and it is a great card but the drivers, especially Enduro, are not mature yet. The drivers will come up to the card eventually if you have the time to wait. I don't believe the 680M is worth the premium price for the performance.

I like the machine....the display is absolutely stunning and the backlit keyboard is great for gaming in a dark room. I threw in a 750GB hard drive for the secondary drive just to store movies from FRAPS to post on youtube.

The x17 is awesome and I would recommend it.

thank you guys for the responses!

And to be perfectly clear alex youre saying that even the standard intel wireless card is good enough for lag free gaming? I dont need any upgraded version?

Don't mean to answer for Alex but I'd consider the $24.00 upgrade. The reason is, if you're going to school, there will be a bunch of students working off the same router. Hopefully, the school wireless is transmitting on the 5GHz band and you can use the dual band NIC for less interference.

I live in an apartment building and the Killer Bigfoot is also a dual band and using the 5GHz band cuts the interference a lot.

Thanks for the answer, yeah I was thinking the standard no named was probably not gonna be the best but the 6230 seems pretty good.

thanks man :)

hopefully I can get the money for a 7970m looking into it the card seems a lot better and will only improve with drivers.

True, it's not required.
