Does anyone know how to determine system specs without actually turning on the computer?

Just as you would a car, take a look under the hood. Open up the side panel on the computer and you can see most of it in plain sight. Are you looking for specific hardware or just in general what your system has?

Just what the system has and how old it is. It was left to me by a deceased relative. No monitor yet though. Just want to know if is worth me buying a new monitor for. Thanks

Is this a DS computer? If so DS at least used to put a sticker with the "order number" of the build somewhere on the computer. If you have that you should be able to do one of two things, either look up the order through the support tab at the top of the DS website (if you have the name of who ordered it too), or contact DS directly and ask them. I can't imagine they wouldn't be willing to at least send you the specs considering the situation. If this is another manufacturer's PC then there is generally something else similar, such as a Service Tag Number, etc. that can get you the same results if you use the appropriate website. If it's a self-built computer then unless you have an itemized list somewhere you're going to need to do what NoSoup4U suggested and do a visual inspection. Depending on the specific computer and the kind of hardware it has and even more specifically what you're looking for, this will vary from incredibly simple to a bit complicated. But the ultimate answer is yes, it's entirely possible to learn every single major component of a PC without ever turning it on.
