hey guys. i think i'm gonna get this router:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124190 I just have a question. It says "Wireless router." So does that mean that I don't have to connect it to my modem? I have Quest as my ISP and the room that my modem is in is about 40 feet from the room where my DS rig is so I don't want to mess with wires. Sorry if it's a stupid question I don't know hardly anything about routers.Edited by Nomad - 14 Dec 2007 at 5:47pm |

You have to connect it to your main source PC. You have a power cord and an Ethernet cable that plugs into your PC and the back of the router. From there, you configure it to your outside source and you're done.
I would recommend getting a Range Expander ( Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander WRE54G). Configure this at the source and then take it to the edge of your router signal to enhance the signal for better reception. You'll also need a receiver for your second PC. I use a Buffalo Air Station located at the second PC and positioned high so it catches the signal better. All your router signals will transmit high, so position your receiver high if you can. I have my Linksys Router inside my desk cabinet at the source and out of sight. It transmits fine and I get a full 54Mbps at the receiver because I've positioned the Air Station on top of the armoir the second PC sits in. If you do buy a Range Expander, about $75.00 before tax, take a laptop and walk around the house to find the edge of your router signal and then plug in the expander in that area. It will then boost the signal in the rest of the house. Or, you could just buy a bigger Router with better range capability and probably eliminate the Expander. Be sure and download the Easy Link Advisor... http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_CASupport_C1&childpagename=US%2FLayout&cid=1175229103635&pagename=Linksys%2FCommon%2FVisitorWrapper&lid=7788178292H11 This will make the set-up so much easier.
